FSR Shirley Plantation Fun Run

Shirley Plantation

About this event

Join your FSR friends for an early summer fun run to Shirley Plantation in Charles City on Saturday, July 11th.  We'll start at the Chicahominy Riverfont Park in Williamsburg. We'll start the registration process at 10AM. The planned route is 82 miles and should take about two and a half hours with a couple of breaks. Niether the plantation nor the gardens are available for touring, so we'll end up at the Upper Shirley Vineyards, where you can grab lunch if you like.  No reservations necessary.

With prevention in mind and to comply with government health rules, we have revised our Fun Run procedures. Our objective is to systematically reduce the risk of virus infection while still enjoying our cars and each other's company. An FSR working group has carefully examined the most recent Virginia COVID-19 guidelines as well as PCA National guidance in producing these event procedures.
Please read the FSR COVID-19 Safety Ground Rules on the next page. You also will be required to acknowledge the PCA Communicable Disease Exposure Waiver before registering, which must be hard copy signed and brought to the event. While this seems legalistic, all this is required to conduct any club event during the pandemic. Our procedures will also be reviewed by PCA National prior to issuance of a certificate of insurance.

Event conduct and requirements are as follows. PLEASE READ:

  • If you feel ill or are sick or have a temperature of 100.4 or greater, please stay home. If you become sick at the event, you will be asked to immediately leave.
  • Please bring masks, an ink pen and gloves/hand sanitizer with you for all participants in your car.
  • Please complete and sign the PCA Communicable Disease Exposure (CDE) Waiver for EACH PARTICIPANT before leaving home and bring it to the event. You can download the CDE Waiver at:  PCACommunicableDiseaseWaiver202005281.pdf  .
  • Completed forms will be collected during registration. Those who have earlier completed this waiver will need to check our master list at registration.
  • During registration, all event team members will wear masks and use hand sanitizer. We will ask them to check their temperature that day before leaving home. The registration area will be sanitized before we start.
  • Registration will start at 10 AM at the Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway, Williamsburg, VA 23185. You are asked you to park with spaces between cars as much as possible. You are asked to stay with your car until a free space is open at the registration table. Observe six-foot social distancing throughout the event. When you are not with your car, please wear a mask.
  • Registration will first start with a hand sanitizing station that everyone must use.
  • Each participant will need to submit their completed PCA CDE Waiver or confirm a waiver is on file. Next everyone must sign the usual PCA Event Insurance Waiver.
  • Finally each car will get a large brown envelope with the group number, car number, usual safety introduction, route instructions, maps and finally alternate take-out eating choices at the end. For example, if you get package #2-3, then you are in the 2nd group, third car.  The package will also identify your group lead’s name, cell number and type of Porsche.
  • When you get your route package envelope, you will return to your car and await the run group drivers’ meeting.
  • Considering social distancing and crowd size restrictions, we will have several smaller run group drivers’ meetings conducted by the run group leaders. There will be no single large drivers’ meeting like in the past.
  • Groups will be 5 groups of 8 cars plus a lead. The last group will also have a sweeper. There will also be photography along the way again.
  • Groups will depart 10 minutes apart to reduce bunching up.
  • The Fun Run ends upon arrival at Shirley Plantation (501 Shirley Plantation Road, Charles, City, VA 23030). Note the last part of the approach road is bumpy gravel.
  • There is no cost for this event except the optional plantation grounds tour.  If you'd like to have lunch at Upper Shirley Vinyards, they can accomodate and you can cover your own lunch tab .
  • The route is about 82 miles long and will take about 2 ½ hours. There are two breaks planned: Mobil Station, New Kent, VA and Sunoco, Quinton, VA.
  • You are reminded to maintain social distancing.  Not handshakes, hugs or the like.
  • Again, we cannot stress the need for each person to assess their own personal risk of infection. If you feel sick or have a temperature, stay home. If you feel these preparations and procedures are inadequate, please stay home.

We hope to see you there!

FIRST SETTLERS REGION - PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA

EVENT COVID-19 SAFETY GROUND RULES

1.  Masks are always required to be worn when moving away from your car during this event. If you object or are not comfortable with this requirement, please do not register to participate.

2.  Avoid congregating at all times. Leave appropriate space between people, participating cars and other vehicles while parked. Maintain at least 6 feet of separation between family units at all times when out of vehicles and allow for an empty parking space between cars when you park.

3.  Please do not come to the event if you are feeling ill, have a temperature above 100.4 degrees or have been in contact with someone in the past two weeks who has been sick. Refunds will be provided upon request – just ask. We highly recommend all volunteers and participants take their temperature to ensure it is below 100.4 degrees before departing from home for the event.

4.  Fill your gas tank and use the restroom before arriving at the event. There will be no break during the drive.

5.  Signage will be put in place at event registration to remind participants of the virus risk and remind them not to participate if feeling sick.

6.  We will provide hand sanitizer, nitrile gloves and masks for the event workers and have extra on hand for participants as needed. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Refrain from touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue into the trash.

7.  Every effort will be made to avoid touching between event workers and participants. Refrain from shaking hands, fist-bumps and hugs.

8.  If someone becomes ill at the event, they will either be sent home to contact their medical provider, or the event medical response coordinator or other event volunteer will call 911.  The decision to call 911 will be made using the following CDC guidelines for seeking emergency care:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face

9.  If any event participant does not comply with all the above safety ground rules, they will be asked to immediately depart the event. If there is sufficient concern regarding participant safety, the event organizers may cancel the event at any time, including prior to the start.
