BMW CCA O'Fest Driving School Instructors 8/21-24

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

About this event

BMW CCA Oktoberfest Michelin Driving School

Join BMW CCA on Wednesday August 21 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California! Laguna Seca is one of America's most exciting and challenging race tracks, making it a great place for students to learn the art of high performance driving. As part of the 2013 BMW CCA Oktoberfest event, we expect to have a full school with students from all over the country.

The Golden Gate Chapter will be running this 4 day driving school with Billy Maher & Peter Vinsel as the co-Chief Instructors for the event. We will be using our format of assigning students to one of four run groups based on a their experience level with some consideration for overal car capabilities. All students and instructors will be assigned to a color tent for organizational purposes. Each run group will have 4 ontrack and 3 classroom sessions each day. Most instructors will be assigned to 2 student for the ontrack sessions and will work with the same students for the whole day.

We will have limited ability for instructors to drive ontrack during student sessions when they do not have a student. In addition we will have an instructor only session each day. This is a format that we've put in place for Laguna Seca schools and has been very successful for the last couple of years. Details will be explained during the Instructor Meeting at the track.

Please indicate which of the 4 days you are available to instruct. We will try to accomodate your requests. Please also note any preferences in the Comments section.

While we expect the majority of instructors for this event to be from the Pacific Region with extensive experience instructing at Laguna Seca, we will also expect there to be many out-of-region instructors. Experience at Laguna Seca IS NOT a requirement to instruct at this event and we will have a track familiarization plan pairing up instructors with locals who have many events under their belt. Out-of-region instructors will be asked for there home chapter so we can verify your qualifications with our Chief Instructor.

Reservations for hotel accomodations at the Hyatt Regency Monterey will be made for instructors for each day that they are instructing (for the night before). Please indicate if you need a reservation. If you share a room with another instructor, your hotel room charges will be paid in full. Please make all room sharing arrangements before you register and let us know who you'll be sharing with. The negotiated per night room rate is $136. If you are in a single room, 50% of your hotel rooms charges at the Hyatt will be reimbursed after the event. We will include an expense reimbursement form in your registration packet to help make this as easy as possible. All other hotel commodations will be your responsibility.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact (chiefinstructors@ggcbmwcca.org) us before the event to work something out.

Event requirements

School requirements:

All cars that you expect to drive ontrack for any purpose must have a completed tech inspection form presented at event registration. The form can be downloaded from the Golden Gate Chapter website at http://ggcbmwcca.org/download/drivingevents/drivingschools/TechForm.pdf. Only the GGC BMW CCA tech form is acceptable - we do not accept dealership tech forms. We will not have tech forms available at the track. The Golden Gate Chapter allows instructors who are qualified to perform their own tech inspections. If you have any questions about your ability to perform the tech inpection please contact us before the event.

Snell SA2005 and M2005 or newer helmets are required.

Convertibles and T-top cars must have 5-point/6-point belts and arm restraints, as well as an approved roll bar installed.  Factory "rollover protection" for a soft top (i.e. BMW Z3 and Z4, Porsche Boxster) is not sufficient for the school. Convertibles with hard tops, including folding hard tops, are NOT ALLOWED.  Examples of cars NOT ALLOWED include: Firebirds and Camaros with T-tops or convertibles; any Corvette other than the Z06 coupe;  Porsche convertibles and Targas. The Lotus Elise, while a targa-style car, IS ALLOWED due to its structural design provided that the hard roof panel is in place (the soft roof panel is not sufficient).  It is essential that you email us to discuss these issues well in advance if you plan to bring a convertible or T-top car.

Please make sure to include and update your Emergency Contact info in your account when you register online.

There are no fees required for instructors at this event
