About this event
Join us for an unforgettable drive up legendary Pikes Peak, led by Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Champion and past AMR President, Chris Lennon. This special tour will focus on the history and excitement of the legendary race known as “The Race to the Clouds,” second only to the Indianapolis 500 in longevity and widely considered one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world.
Our day will begin at Porsche Colorado Springs, where participants will gather for a brief introduction to the history of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, notable drivers, memorable moments from the mountain, and stories from Chris Lennon’s firsthand experiences competing on the course.
From there, we will depart for Pikes Peak Highway and regroup at the North Pole parking lot before heading through the gate together and beginning our ascent up the mountain itself.
Several scenic and historic stops will be made along the route, where Chris will share stories, racing insights, and answer questions along the way. Planned stops include the PPIHC pit and paddock area, Glen Cove, Devil’s Playground, and a brief stop at the summit. Devil’s Playground offers sweeping views of approximately four miles of the iconic 12.41-mile course, while the summit provides an opportunity to experience the breathtaking views from the top of America’s Mountain. These locations provide excellent photo opportunities, plenty of parking, and spectacular mountain scenery.
After descending the mountain, the group will continue to the Penrose Heritage Museum, home to an impressive collection of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and regional automotive history. The tour will conclude with lunch, where participants can relax, share stories from the day, and enjoy great food with fellow PCA members. Members may choose between PizzAmoré or Miguel’s Mexican Bar & Grill and must select their preferred restaurant during event registration so accommodations can be made for the group.
Copies of Chris Lennon’s book, The Peak of Racing, will also be available for purchase during the event for $35 per copy. The book offers a fascinating turn-by-turn look at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and its legendary course.
