Winnipeg Autocross / Ladies First Autocross School

St Andrews Airport

About this event

General Info

Overview
Winnipeg Autocross and the Winnipeg Sports Car Club are proud to present the fourth annual Ladies First Autocross School—a grassroots motorsports event created to empower women to explore their interest in automotive racing.

This school offers a welcoming space for women to build skills and gain confidence behind the wheel and at the track. By creating an inclusive environment, we aim to break down barriers and encourage more women to experience the thrill of motorsport.

Participants of all skill levels are welcome, from first-timers and beginners looking to learn the basics of performance driving to experienced racers seeking to refine their techniques and skill sets. Whether you race a daily driver or a dedicated race car, all you need is a valid driver’s license and a safe-running car to join the action. The school will feature top-notch local instructors, led by our local female SCCA Solo National Champion, Emily Janzen. Drivers will receive comprehensive training on various aspects of racing, including car control, race line optimization, and advanced driving techniques in your own car. Through hands-on practice, participants will develop the skills necessary to navigate challenging courses (and the streets) with precision and finesse.

FAQ
What if I don’t have a helmet?
No helmet, no problem!  We have plenty of helmets available for you to use. Just bring $5 to purchase a balaclava on site to wear underneath.

But my car isn't a race car!
It probably is! Most autocross cars are actually everyday street cars. If your vehicle is in good working condition, meaning good tire tread, nothing loose or leaking, no concerning mechanical issues, and it doesn't make any funny noises, there’s a very good chance you can race it.

Many of our participants bring the same car they drive to work, school, and the grocery store. No special modifications are required.

Please note that SUVs, vans, and most trucks are not permitted due to safety regulations. If you’re unsure whether your vehicle qualifies, feel free to contact us. We’re happy to help!

What if I don’t have a car?
Thanks to McPhillips Toyota, we will have two automatic loaner cars available for participants to use during the school!

Loaner seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need to a seat in a loaner car, please register for use of a loaner car to complete your request. Please note that an additional fee of $40 applies to participants confirmed for a seat in a loaner car.

If you have access to another vehicle you could use, such as your very own, a friend’s, or family member’s car, we kindly ask that you consider leaving the loaner spots available for participants who truly have no other option.

How many people will be there?
This event is currently capped at 25 students.

Are spectators and cheerleaders welcome?
Yes, absolutely. We pride ourselves on having a welcoming community, and we understand if you prefer to have a support buddy. Spectators must show confirmation of their completed SpeedWaiver during check-in at the trailer.

Have more questions about what to expect at the school? Please contact us or reach out via our Instagram page.
