Weekend Getaway to Tubac and Kitt Peak – Drives, Sightseeing, optional Golf Tournament
Join us for a relaxing weekend getaway to Tubac, AZ, a Spanish presidio town, where we will enjoy exciting drives, sightseeing, optional golf, and great food. We are staying two nights at the historic Tubac Golf Resort & Spa (booking information below) in classic southwestern style casitas. Golfers may know the resort from the movie Tin Cup, starring Kevin Costner. Tubac offers great sightseeing, including the oldest mission in Arizona, Tumacácori, Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, great restaurants, wine tasting, and the vibrant art scene of old Tubac.
We will meet in the East Valley on Friday and take the scenic route through Florence to Tucson, where we will stop for a lunch buffet at the Culinary Dropout (chips, house salad, burger sliders, chicken sandwich, soft drinks) before we continue south to Tubac. Upon arrival and check in we gather for dinner at the Stables Ranch Grill on the patio, overlooking the resort golf course and adjacent pastures (you pay your own check).
On Saturday there are several options to choose from, including an organized drive (details to be announced), a casual golf tournament (see below), or sightseeing, shopping, and wine tasting on your own. Or just relax and enjoy the resort facilities. Meals Saturday are on our own with several restaurants to choose from around Tubac or at the resort.
Sunday's destination is Kitt Peak National Observatory. We will start towards the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge and head up the mountain. From there we will climb higher on the very twisty and well-maintained mountain road to Kitt Peak National Observatory to enjoy even more spectacular views and a one hour tour of the observatory. After the tour we'll have a boxed lunch at the observatory picnic area, which includes your choice of sandwich, chips, cookies, and a water bottle. The official program ends here, and you will have plenty of time to head back to the Valley on your own.
Event fees include Friday lunch buffet at the Culinary Dropout in Tucson and the Kitt Peak National Observatory tour with box lunch on Sunday.
