Turkeys in the Trunk 2022

Checkered Flag Porsche

About this event

Summer has finally retreated, hurricane season is past and Christmas decorations are on display at Wal-Mart.  It must be time for Turkeys in the Trunk!!!

Please join us for a Saturday of fun and camaraderie at First Settlers Region's 13th annual Turkeys in the Trunk charity event at Checkered Flag Porsche in Virginia Beach on Saturday, 19 November 2022.

***For folks in the western part of our Region who would like to participate in supporting the Greater Richmond Foodbank/Feed More, please register via Shenandoah Region's event  page HERE.

In Virginia Beach,  we'll be supporting the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore in their effort to collect food for the Thanksgiving season at their Mayflower Marathon food drive, a weekend long effort to fill as many big rigs as possible with donated food for distribution to less fortunate local families.

Turkeys in the Trunk in Virginia Beach:  Load your frunk, trunk, roof rack, passenger foot well.... wherever, with frozen turkeys, canned vegetables, yams, and the rest of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. Don’t forget to leave room for your passenger, but tell them to pack lightly!

Then head over to Checkered Flag Porsche, 2865 Virginia Beach Blvd for the start of the day. Pull into the service bay and our FSR crew will unload your donations, weigh them, then reload them back into your car. Whoever brings the most food, by weight, will win a Porsche prize.  The weigh-in will be from 1:00 to 1:45PM. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 1PM, as their service department is open on Saturday until 1PM.  If you'd rather just write a check, feel free to do so and give it to Josie at the event.  You can make your check out to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia or, if you prefer, the WIlliamsburg House of Mercy.

We'll have a Drivers' Meeting promptly at 2PM where you'll receive driving instructions for a short drive from the Mayflower Marathon to our final destination with a stop in between to visit a local car collection.

After the weigh-in, we’ll drive to Pembroke Mall to offload our food donations at the Mayflower Marathon food drive. The club's arrival is one of the highlights of the entire weekend for the Marathon.  There is no local car club that even comes close to our level of donations. If you're making a monetary donation, please make your check out to the Foodbank of Southeastern VA. If you can't make it to the event, you can send a check to our Charity Coordinator, Josie Grandfield and we'll add it to the event total and include it in our presentation at the Marathon. Please contact Josie at charity@fsrpca.org for mailing instructions.

After the Marathon drop-off, we'll proceed to the oceanfront area to check out a local car collection, then on to the home of members Chris and Becky Stanley, where we'll enjoy a superb Mexican feast catered by FSR member-owned Taqueria La Patrona... generously hosted by Checkered Flag Porsche!

Like all of our events, we can't do this without volunteers. If you'd like to help out with setup, parking, the sign-in table, or to work the weigh-in process at Checkered Flag, please sign-up for that on the following registration page. Show time to all these positions is 12PM at Checkered Flag. Thanks!

The best part of these events is giving back to the community, driving our favorite cars and finishing the day socializing with great friends!  We hope to see you there!

So hit the “Continue” button and register for a day of fun and charity in Virginia Beach.

Please note:  The goal of this donation effort is to collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations.  Ideally, the food donated at the event can be turned into a fairly typical Thanksgiving meal for a person or family in need. The donated food is packed in boxes by volunteers for distribution before Thanksgiving.  So, please consider this when you decide what to donate.  Cash donations are also accepted at this event and you should make your check out directly to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.  These donations are also reflected in FSR's and Shenandoah's total charity proceeds.
