About this event
St. Anthony’s Greek Monastery is located south of Florence, AZ. , located on almost 800 acres of lush gardens, citrus, and olive groves. Founded in 1995 by Gerunda Ephraim after the purchase of desert scrubland to establish a monastery. The nine chapels, main church, refectory, and living quarters have been built into the largest Orthodox monastery in the Western Hemisphere. We will drive north for about 60 minutes, with an opportunity to walk the grounds, and visit the chapels. There is a dress code. For men, it requires long pants, socks, and a long sleeve shirt. For women, it requires long sleeve shirt, covering to the neck, long skirt, or a dress with socks. A scarf tied under the chin and covering the neck is also required.
We will be on the grounds about an hour.
After our time at St. Anthony’s will will drive north to Florence for lunch at Mt. Athos Restaurant and Cafe, where they serve Greek and American food.
This is an interesting drive, with an opportunity to experience another culture, and religion. Visit their website at https://stanthonysmonastery.org/ .
