Porsches, Planes and Seafood - Encore

We had an amazing response to our return to day drives on August 8!  So we are inviting those who weren't able to make it on August 8 (waitlisted or otherwise) to another day of this - on August 22.  We will take a back road run from Bowie, MD down to the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum.  One of the most-loved attractions from last year's Lighthouse Tour,  we have combined a morning visit to the PAX Museum with a lunch to follow at the Bugeye Grill in nearby Solomons.

We will depart from our rally point in Bowie (to be provided to registrants prior to the drive) by 8 am. Bob Evans is nearby off the US 301 interchange from US 50, also a Starbucks in Bowie Town Center.  We'll advise that you use the restroom before beginning our journey.

The 90 minute drive will take us through scenic back roads in Charles and Calvert Counties before our arrival around 9:45 am at the PAX Museum.  The treat will be that you will get to drive onto the flightline and be guided to a park ing space next to classic naval fighter planes that once called the nearby PAX Naval Air Station home, including the F-14 Tomcat, the A-6, and other legendary military aircraft.  Although the museum's rear building and flight simulators will not be available (thank you COVID), you will be able to enjoy the main museum building and the planes along the flightline. They have added a number of planes along the flightline so it is amazing, plus they have docents who will do tours of the flightline as well as inside the museum. Please note that masks will need to be worn inside the museum (and preferably outside in the company of others at this event) and social distancing practiced as best as possible during your visit.  Our $10 registration fee for this event will include admission to the museum, which is sharply discounted from last year.

Around 11 am, we will depart for our lunch stop at the Bugeye Grille, whose manager Jimmy V is the proud owner of a 986 Boxster.  We will park outside the restaurant  (on 8/8 he had the county cone off some spaces for us along the Boardwalk) and enjoy great seafood either on the patio or indoors, weather permitting. HIs mussels and Tuna Carpaccio with pasta are exceptional.  Everyone will be responsible for their own checks here.  Please note we will be limited to about 33 people for lunch..

PCA Potomac COVID procedures and local Maryland regulations will be adhered to.   We will do a ZOOM Meeting for all attendees on Tuesday 8/18 along with electonic waivers (a new wrinkle thanks to COVID.

Although our event will officially end at the restaurant, for those who want to make a weekend of it,  in past years for the Lighthouse Tours we stayed at the Holiday Inn - Solomons (410-326-6311).  There is also the Quality Inn - Solomons (410-326-6303) next door, and a variety of restaurant options on Solomons Island should you want to stay over Saturday night, plus I can confirm that the Tiki Bar was open on 8/8 and doing well while keeping things on the up and up.

We look forward to seeing you once again!!!
