About this event
Kentucky camp on the eastern slope of the Santa Rita's was a prosperous mining district, and ghost town. Water was harnessed for a placer mine, relying on extensive canals and pipes to bring the water into an extensive holding pond. Five buildings remain, having been preserved by the US Forest Service. After the meeting we will head east over Box canyon, with an opportunity to stop and see the grassland, and Oak forest. We will travel south on AZ 83, driving west on Gardner , and Fish camp roads. The area has interesting hiking trails, and the opportunity to explore the remaining buildings. We will also pass a monastery, and can stop to visit. Lunch will be a picnic. If there are questions, please contact me directly. This is limited to a maximum of 30 cars. There is no fee.
