PCA Cal-Inland Back Way to Ojai

Fraizer Park

About this event

Get ready for one of the best driver’s roads in Southern California. This tour begins in Frazier Park and heads west into big-sky mountain scenery before dropping us onto legendary California Highway 33, an iconic ribbon of pavement known for its sweeping corners, elevation changes, and remote Los Padres National Forest views.

Highway 33 isn’t just a route — it’s a destination. A large section of SR-33 near Ojai is officially designated the Jacinto Reyes National Scenic Byway, celebrated for its solitude, rugged backcountry landscapes, and unforgettable mountain driving.

🥜 Mid-route stop: Santa Barbara Pistachio Company

We’ll make a fun stop at the Santa Barbara Pistachio Company Farm & Store (right on Hwy 33) for a break, snacks, and the chance to grab some legendary pistachio treats before continuing the journey.

From there, we’ll continue southbound on Hwy 33, carving our way through the mountains and eventually descending into the Ojai Valley — the kind of finish that makes you want to turn around and run the route again.

We’re still finalizing a few tour details, including our post-drive group meal destination. If you have a favorite spot in or near Ojai — or a connection that could help us secure a great group meal stop — we’d love your recommendations! Please reach out using the “Have Questions?” button above.

Event requirements

All participants must sign the appropriate PCA waivers for driving tours, which will be available at the starting location in Ridgecrest.

Group Drive Safety Guidelines:

  1. Safety is our first priority!  Turn on your headlights and remember our group drives are not track events.
  2. Drive aware.  Road hazards such as road debris/rocks can be kicked up by other cars and trucks unexpectedly. Remember that your PCA friend’s car, that they love as well, is behind you. Bicycling groups, wildlife, and slow moving utility vehicles are commonly encountered on weekends and in rural areas where we’re headed.
  3.  Please ensure you and your vehicles are tour-ready prior to departure:  sufficient fuel, oil and coolant levels are topped up, healthy and properly inflated tires, bio break etc.
  4. Once we are established on the drive, stay in your position relative to the other vehicles in the group.  Maintain a safe nose-to-tail following distance from the vehicle ahead of you.  No distracted driving, please.
  5. Stay aware of the lead vehicle.  The route may have to be changed due to traffic or road conditions/closures.  Stay flexible!
  6. If you experience a mechanical issue/failure and must pull over, the sweeper will advise the group and peel off with stranded member(s) for assistance and advise the group of status.  No member will be left stranded.
  7. Often we experience little/no cellular phone coverage along our twisty road adventures. Our group utilizes handheld UHF two-way radios for communication and safety. If you have a radio, pay attention and listen for any updates that may be broadcast. If you have your own UHF radio, please tune to channel 5-5; if we need to change channels due to interference, a new channel number will be broadcast to everyone in our group. VIsit this member discussion to learn more about UHF Radios.
  8. As always, club veterans are at your services for any questions or concerns you may have.
