Get your kicks on Route 66!
2026 is the 100-year anniversary of the opening of the historic, fabled "MotherRoad"from Chicago to Santa Barbara, when 385 miles of the route ran through Northern Arizona. 100 years later, Arizona can claim the longest stretch of the original Route 66 in the U.S. We couldn't let the year go by without celebrating the centennial on a great drive with our Porsches!
Unlike the typical east-to-west direction, we will head East, with plans to stop in several
with planned stops before our final destination, Flagstaff.
then head east on Route 66 to Williams, where we will take in the small town historic charm Williams offers: Americana-style shops, restaurants, and other venues dating back to the early 1900s, many celebrating the town’s important role as a stop on Historic Route 66.
From Williams we will follow potions of Old Route 66 on our way to Flagstaff. We'll expect to experience beautiful fall colors on our way to the Little America Hotel.
The DoubleTree Hotel -- conveniently located just a few blocks from location of the big Saturday car show. Arrangements have been made for discounted rates, starting at $170/night.
We will arrive in the afternoon, and an impromptu happy hour is sure to break out at the Silver Pine Restaurant & Bar. Dinner is on your own, at the Silver Pine or elsewhere in town.
The highlight of Day Two is a visit to the world famous Lowell Observatory in the evening. During the day, a drive is planned, following several stretches of historic Route 66 and a visit to Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
Our visit at the observatory will include a historical talk prior to a very interesting tour/presentation just for our group. The Deluxe Stargazing Package is a 3-hour private experience utilizing the 24-inch Dyer Telescope.
On Friday, you will be on your own to explore other sites in and around Flagstaff before returning home, or you can plan to join some of us on a drive back to the Valley via Lake Mary Road and Mormon Lake.
Registration for this 3-day driving tour is $32.50 per person, which covers the entrance fee and our private tour at Lowell Observatory.
You will make your own room reservation at the Little America Hotel. Arrangements have been made for a room block featuring Grand View King Rooms at a special rate of only $109 per night + tax. Instructions on how to register with the discounted rate will be provided in the confirmation messages you will receive when you complete registration. You must reserve your room no later than October 12 to take advantage of the group rate.
Please note that, because AZPCA will be committed to the observatory registration numbers, and the hotel for room bookings at the special group rate, any late cancellations may not be refundable, as they will impact the club financially. Thank you for understanding.
