2022 Inaugural "Destination" Tour to Red Wing, Minnesota

Schonesland’s inaugural tour to beautiful, historic Red Wing, Minnesota will be happening on Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16.  Members will be free to return home Sunday on any route of their choice.

This is our first “Destination” tour, which will allow for reduced driving activity to allow more time to relax and enjoy the historic features and amenities of the Mississippi River region around Red Wing, just north of Lake Pepin. 

Schoneslanders who make this trip will be staying downtown at the historic St. James Hotel where we have blocked twenty rooms for a 2-night Friday and Saturday visit.  King and double-queen rooms will be available at $195 per night. Free parking will be in the ramp connected to the hotel with overnight parking security keeping an eye on our cars.  You may reserve your room in the "Schonesland PCA" block now by calling the hotel at (651)-388-2846.  After you’ve done that, please email trip leader Jeff David at jeff.t.david@gmail.com that you’ve secured your room.  Note:  The 20 room block will only be held until June 15th.

 For those who can join in, there will be a group meeting at the Kum & Go at Delaware and First St in Ankeny at 8:00 AM, Friday.  After a short drivers' meeting, we will travel Interstate 35 to Fairibault, MN, then HW's 60 & 58 to arrive in Red Wing by about 1:30 PM.  This arrival time will allow for lunch and leisure before our 4 PM hotel check-in. 

Friday evening’s social hour and dinner will be one block from the hotel at the Home Plate Grill, where we have secured the entire bar area for our group from 6 until 8 PM.  This may be the nicest bar in downtown Red Wing, where we will have dinner and drinks together.  The kitchen's full menu will be available to us.

Saturday morning’s breakfast options are many.  Besides the hotel’s own Scarlett Kitchen, there is the famous Hannish Bakery, Bev’s and Fable’s-all one block’s walk from the hotel.  After breakfast, we will line up outside the hotel for a fabulous morning drive across the river to the beautiful roads of Wisconsin.  As thrilling and beautiful as the roads that we drive on the Fall Tour, this route will let you really enjoy your Porsche at its best.

With the morning tour ending around lunchtime, members are free to roam about the region until we all meet again for a 6 PM cocktail hour and 7 PM dinner back at the St. James Hotel.  The best lunch options for your consideration are in Lake City, MN, as well as Pepin and Fountain City, WI.  Or you could return to Red Wing for lunch, shopping, and/or a visit to the museums and the West End’s many funky shops and bars.   

Saturday night’s 7 PM dinner will be a luxurious buffet featuring a salad, three main courses, sides and dessert. The cost for this meal will be $65 per person, tax and gratuity included.

Sunday morning everyone will be free to return home on any number of relaxing 2-lane routes of your choosing, but if you need to hurry home, getting to I-35 in Faribault, MN, will get you home in just over four hours.
