FunRun: King City to Big Sur

Back road enthusiasts' FunRun

About this event

King City to Big Sur via Fort Hunter Liggett on Sat. 4/11. The Drive starts early at 7.45am w/ Drivers’ Briefing in Morgan Hill. You’ll need to leave the Mid-Peninsula area no later than 7 o’clock, so bear this in mind. Leaving Morgan Hill at 8.15 we head south for a 1 hr. drive to King City and take a v.short pit stop, before going to Ft. Hunter Liggett. Then it’s up and over the mountain, dropping to Highway One on the ocean side. Heading north on One to Napenthe’s restaurant in Big Sur, we’ll have lunch together and enjoy a famous view of the Pacific coast.

We’ve been restricted to reserving very limited places for lunch at 11.30am [sharp]. The restaurant and parking lot will be v.full of Spring Break crowds, but walk to the head of the line.  Happily there are several other places nearby w/ availability. Less than a mile further up the road is the entry to Ventana (you should call for reservations), or continue north 4.8 miles [8 min] to Big Sur River Inn. You will pay for your own meal in these sites.

For those with our Nepenthe reservations, we'll have a fixed price of $29pp for any food item on the Lunch Menu, inclusive of soft drink, tax, tip. You’ll pre-pay the lunch and GGR fee when you register yourself and passenger on MotorsportsReg.com.

The FunRun ends at Nepenthe’s, so after lunch, drive to Carmel and take a look around town as well as doing the 17 Mile Drive & visit the Aquarium; then on up One to Castroville, east on 156 to 101 to get back home.

At the Drivers’ Briefing, Saturday, April 11 at 7.45am [address to follow], and after signing insurance waivers, we will divide cars into appropriate groups depending on drivers' desired pace. Because this FunRun is not a leisurely "destination tour," you'll need to give some thought to your diving style. This is an energetic drive and we want members to be comfortable and above all, safe. Arrive at the Briefing w/ a full tank and an empty bladder.

Here are additional details to note:
1/ Due to high demand for these FunRuns, this drive is open to Golden Gate Region drivers only; Porsche cars only.
2/ You need to open an account on MotorsportsReg.com and sign-up both driver and passenger [passenger need not be GGR member]; $10 per car entry fee is non-refundable.
3/ If driver has never received a GGR name badge, be sure to check the appropriate box when registering and we’ll try to have one for you. If you want a badge for your passenger [he/she must have PCA member number], then register him/her as DRIVER.
4/ Nepenthe reserved only: pre-paid $29 per person on MotorsportsReg.com. is non-refundable.
5/ If our limited spaces at Nepenthe are full at the time you sign-up on Motorsportreg: make your own reservations/walk-in to Ventana or Big Sur River Inn and pay your own lunch tab. There may be spaces available for walk-ins at Nepenthe, depending on crowds.
