Formula Ford 50th Anniversary 2019

      

March 23, 1969 Formula Ford made its US debut at Willow Springs Raceway.  Nearly 50 years to the day, The Vintage Auto Racing Association and Formula Ford Drivers Club are proud to present a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Formula Ford Racing.  Over the last half century of auto racing, much has changed, but Formula Ford has remained a series dedicated to showcasing driver skill in evenly matched racecars.  In the spirit of camaraderie, VARA and the FFDC, have adjusted our rules to allow legal race cars from all local organizations to run without modification.  Also, all we have eliminated the member/non-member pricing so all drivers pay the same entry fee.  This is a celebration and we want you here.

Rules in a nutshell

1. Racecars must run a treaded tire compound.  We run the Hoosier VFF, but whatever you run in your home series is fine with us, provided it is treaded.
2. Ford Kent 1600cc motor legal in 2018/19 SCCA GCR spec.  Non Ford powered cars are not eligible.
3. Historic FF weight over 1100lbs.  Club and Modern FF weight over 1110lbs
4. Pass safety tech inspection and abide by your club’s rules. 

Vara doesn't want anyone ruining the party, so in the spirit of honest racing  the top three finishers and one randomly selected car will have a simple engine compliance check performed after each session.

The race day will culminate with a Formula Ford Race of Champions.  This race will feature the top competitors from all three classes chasing each other down in an Australian pursuit race format.  Vintage, Club or New…who do you think will come home with the victory?

As the sun sets, the party in the paddock begins.  Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers and several surprise categories to be revealed on race day.

Your race weekend continues on Saturday and Sunday as part of the VARA high desert challenge.
