DRSCCA Solo #2: Memorial Day Autocross

Schoolcraft PSTC

About this event

We are working with the most recent information we have from the State of Michigan and from the SCCA National Office. If things change we may need to modify the event. For now, this is what we’re rolling with!

Please thank all the Detroit Region folks who have been in Zoom meetings the past two weeks going over our next steps and procedures for this season. This took time, effort and patience (things that most of us in racing have little of to begin with). Also, thank you to the SCCA National Office for generating COVID-19 guidelines that covered 90% of what we needed to know right off the bat (link below).

This post will have four sections:

What’s Different

What’s Different:

  3. No on-site registrations or paying
  4. No congregating by the Funmover and maintain 6 feet distance apart everywhere
  5. No Novice walk
  6. Drivers meeting will be online only via Zoom the night before
  7. No trophy ceremony
  8. Bring your own water
  9. No spectators
  10. Passengers only from the same household

Detailed Q/A:

1. Will we have a solo school?

A: The solo school has been modified to a free Zoom meeting and a test-n-tune day. Further information on the school and the test-n-tune will be posted separately.

2. Will we have a Memorial Day event on May 24th at Schoolcraft?

A: Yes. The event will proceed with Detroit SCCA Solo adhering to state and SCCA guidelines on social distances and PPE (more details on that below). Please read the notice per the SCCA National office:

Notice to Participants: In light of the current COVID-19 situation, every attempt will be made to minimize the risks of exposure to the virus. New processes and procedures are being developed and will be put into place for events going forward.

Ultimately, it is your responsibility to assess the risk to you, both on-track and off, and to make the decision on whether or not to participate. If you are feeling unwell or are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath please stay home. If you have been in contact with someone who has been experiencing these symptoms in the last two weeks, please stay home.

While on site please take the health and safety of your fellow participants, volunteers and staff into consideration and practice social distancing, wear a mask, and wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer frequently.

3. Will there be spectators/non-drivers allowed?

A: No. We are limiting the site to drivers only at this time.

4. Are passengers allowed?

A: Only if both passenger and driver are from the same household. No “ride alongs” with someone from a different household.

5. Are Co-Drivers allowed?

A: Yes. Please use your best judgement if you wish to co-drive with someone.

6. Will there be loaner helmets available?

A: No. Please provide your approved helmet for the event.

7. Will you allow walk-ups the day of?

A: No. All drivers must pre-register AND PRE-PAY online. Registration will only be there for check-in and 2020 helmet stickers.

8. Is there a driver cap?

A: Yes. We are limiting the first event to 110 drivers. We will monitor how the event goes and decide if the cap can be increased for future events. The event registration will close Friday (May 22nd). This will give us time to create run-work orders and work assignments ahead of time.

9. What if I don't feel up for going to the event after I register?

A: Please let us know as soon as possible so the spot can be filled by someone else. We will provide a credit for a future event or full refund if necessary. If you are sick STAY HOME!

10. Do I still need to go to Registration and Tech?

A. Yes. Go to registration to check-in and get a 2020 helmet sticker. At ech, stay in your vehicle and follow the workers instructions.

11. Should I bring PPE (mask, cleaning supplies, gloves etc.)?

A: We encourage everyone to bring a mask at the minimum. We will not require a mask unless you are working near or in the Funmover. Cleaning supplies (wipes and sanitizer) will be provided around the site and at all corner stations. Please bring your own water. We will provide water in open cases but will not provide any in the coolers at the corner stations.

12. Will there be course walks?

A: Yes. Please maintain 6 feet between each other during the course walks. If this is not adhered to we will cancel course walks. Also note that we are aiming to have as many runs as possible (since we're capping at 110) so if you are not comfortable walking the course know that you should have enough runs to do an initial lower intensity run.

13. Will there be a Novice walk?

A: No.This is unfortunate but we do not believe that we could accomplish this while adhering to the state/SCCA guidelines.

14. Will there be a Drivers meeting?

A: Yes, BUT not at the site. The drivers meeting will be hosted on Zoom meeting Saturday (May 23rd) at 7pm. Please attend, especially if you have questions.  A copy of the drivers meeting will be posted online and a document will also be provided. This will include your run/work order and your worker assignments (per your requests when you register). The day of the event we will not have a driver's meeting. We will communicate with the loudspeakers and the FM transmitter. If you have additional questions please ask at registration check-in.

15. Will worker assignments or tasks be affected?

A: Yes. Corner workers will be 6 feet apart from each other (you should be anyways if you’re at a corner!) and cleaning supplies will be at the corner stations for your hands and to disinfect radios/flags.

We are looking for volunteers to work the timing/scoring in the Funmover for the entire event. This means that you will not have official runs for the Sunday event. You will be provided free entry into the Saturday test-n-tune event and a lunch will be provided to you Sunday.

16. What if I have an issue to address during the event (“I swear I didn't hit that cone…”)? Can I go to the Funmover?

A: We request that people do not congregate around the Funmover (even if you are wearing masks). Those that are not wearing masks will not be allowed within 20 feet of the Funmover. We will have workers who you can contact in the paddock and grid to relay your issue.

17. Will the restrooms/building be open?

A: We are assuming yes (porta johns will be provided if not) but please maintain social distancing in the building and wear a mask. Do not congregate inside the building. Take care of what you need to do and leave so others can do the same!

18. Will there be a trophy ceremony after?

A. No. We have been requested to not provide physical trophies or allow folks to congregate after the event at this time.

Above all, please keep yourself and others safe at this event like always (just this time it includes more cleaning supplies and one Miata distance between each other).

Thanks everyone,

Chris and Andrew
