Photography Tour to John Day

Registration opens April 10, 2019 12:00 AM PDT
The tour will be about 260 miles and will start at the WALMART parking lot in REDMOND. Gather at 8:30 AM with mandatory driver’s meeting at 8:45 AM. First group out at 9:00AM. Due to parking and restaurant limitations, the tour will be limited to 20 cars (two groups). Please make sure to start with a full tank of gas.
Registration will close at NOON on Friday, May 3.

Photography Tour to John Day
Each spring for about 3-4 weeks from mid April thru mid May the hills come alive with green grasses then turn brown for the rest of the year. The rolling hills East of Central Oregon offer superb views of the spring condition. The roads are little traveled and offer many stretches of the type driving opportunities that Porsche cars and their drivers like. This tour also offers numerous photo opportunities and varied landscape. The pace will be varied depending upon the scenery and road conditions. The starting point will be from the Redmond Wall-Mart parking lot, West lot, near the PetCo store.
Planed stops include : Shaniko, John Day Clarno Unit, Fossil and Painted Hills. Lunch will be in Fossil where two restaurants are available (to view menus check web sites of Korner Cafe and Cross Rifle BBQ or some may want to bring sack lunch. There is also a general store in town where sandwiches, snacks and drinks will be available. Gasoline is also available in Fossil. A one hour stop is planned. The other stops will be 20-30 minutes to allow photo opportunities and rest room stops.
All roads are paved except for about 3/4 mile in Painted Hills. The route from Shaniko to Painted Hills is designated as an Oregon Scenic Byway
(Travel Through Time). For information about the places we will stop, Wikipedia, on web, is recommended.

1615 Arrival in Prineville - FORMAL TOUR ENDS
1700 Estimated arrival in Bend ( Redmond 25 minutes earlier)
