2021 Driver Development Camp May 21-24 (Registration closes May 20 at 6:00pm)
CKRC will be operating a 3 day Driver Development Camp (DDC) at Strathmore Motorsports Park May 21st – 24th, 2021. This program will operate 8:30AM – 4PM daily, with a short break for lunch.
The main purpose of this program is to improve driving/safety/awareness for existing CKRC or other affiliated club drivers that are competent in driving their karts. In order to get the most from this camp, your driver should be able to lap the Strathmore Motorsports Park circuit in 1:20 or better and have completed a minimum of 100 laps driving experience. If your driver has not met this minimum standard it is encouraged that you get your laps in prior to the event and please contact us directly to discuss your individual situation.
There will be ample track time that will include lead/follow sessions, specific on-track driving exercises, track walks each day, open lapping sessions and more.
Drivers will need a well maintained kart and all the safety equipment, as well as an able and enthusiastic parent or guardian to be present (17 or under). Mechanics are encouraged for all drivers. They will be responsible for their own kart maintenance as well as providing on-track supervision when the karts are running.
Drivers and their parents will be responsible for their own meal arrangements.
Due to the speed and age differences we cannot incorporate Bambino (Kid) karts into this program. The DDC is open for ages 7 turning 8 and up that are considering racing for the upcoming 2021 Race Season – all racers need to meet the minimum weight of their class. We welcome 4 and 2 stroke engine classes, excluding Shifter karts.
This program will include a hands-on technical session conducted by club member Jack Mazury. Jack will run through the fundamentals of kart preparation with information that most newcomers to the sport will find very useful.
Newer drivers will receive the most benefit, however there will be much information that will be shared that will certainly benefit more experienced drivers too.
This program is open to licensed drivers from outside Calgary as well (e.g. EDKRA) who will also find benefit in this, as well as a chance to learn the track. We will operate this program in the counterclockwise direction.
*** BONUS *** Each Registered participant of this program will receive one pre-paid entry credit to any CKRC race event in 2021.
Driver Development Topics:
- Minimal classroom instruction with a strong focus on track time
- Daily track walks
- Lead follow by experienced and winning club drivers
- Focus on maintenance of karts and setup
- Safe passing, race lines, braking zones, vision and incident avoidance
- Data uploading and interpretation
Things to bring:
- Kart
- Safety equipment (Helmet, Gloves, Fire Suit, Rib Vest, Shoes)
- Tools for maintenance
- Fuel
- A parent or guardian (Drivers 17 or under)
Bonus but not required:
- Mychron 4 or 5
- Windows laptop with both Race studio 2 and race studio 3 (Mychron 5)
- Track map
- Rain gear (We are running Rain or Shine)
Fees:
Junior Entry $350 (includes 1 Pre-Paid entry to a 2021 CKRC Club Race)
Senior Entry $350 (includes 1 Pre-Paid entry to a 2021 CKRC Club Race)
All revenues go to the CKRC.
Event requirements
For minors please download parent consent waiver(click) and bring to registration.
This must be signed by both parents and/or guardians of the underage driver.
Only one of these per season is required at North Star Raceway.
