2014 Deutsche Marque Concours d'Elegance

Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

(Rain date: Sunday, May 18, 2014)

Nottoway Park, 9610 Courthouse RD, Vienna, VA 22181

The Greater Washington Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (GWS-MBCA; http://gws.mbca.org/) is pleased to announce the 2014 Deutsche Marque Concours d'Elegance!

A Washington Metropolitan Area rite of spring, the Deutsche Marque Concours event is an ideal opportunity for GWS-MBCA members to join their BMW Car Club of America and Porsche Club of America friends in a celebration of our German marques displayed on the lawn of Nottoway Park in Vienna, VA (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/maps/nottowaymap.htm).

Now in our 31st year, some changes are in order. Chiefly, GWS-MBCA members must register for this event via Motorsportreg.com (http://www.motorsportreg.com/). If you are unfamiliar with this registration process, please review the following helpful hints:

  1. Register your username and password on Motorsportreg.com.

  2. Review our GWS-MBCA DMCdE announcement page. (Shortcut: http://msreg.com/DMConcours14MBCA)

  3. Scroll down and click on the green "Continue" button.

  4. A new page will open to select an entry type. Be sure to click the radio button next to the quantity drop-down box to expand the vehicle and class fields.

  5. You may purchase additional Awards Reception tickets on this page, too.

In the Deutsche Marque Concours d'Elegance, vehicles are judged by their condition, appearance, and cleanliness, and competitive Mercedes-Benz vehicles are divided into two classes:

Concours Street Class – Judges scoring cars in this class will follow MBCA National Concours Rules in which the Interior, Trunk, Soft Top, Chrome, Rubber, Glass, Lights, Engine Compartment, Exterior Paint, and Body Work (but not the Chassis/Underbody/Exhaust System) are assessed. On the day of the show, these cars will be divided into categories based on actual turnout.

Concours Popular Vote Class – Public ballot will determine the “People's Choice” award.

While the established award classes will continue to be celebrated, another change this year will be a “Star of Excellence” feature to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the W124 chassis cars! The W124 was introduced in Europe as the 300E sedan in 1984, subsequently introduced to the U.S. market in 1986, became known as the E-Class in 1994, and spawned wagon, coupe, cabriolet, and extended wheelbase models by the time production ended in 1995. This W124 chassis also formed the basis of the legendary 500E/E500 (a.k.a. Porsche Typ 2758) super sedans sold in the U.S.A. from 1991 to 1994. We'd like to encourage all W124-owning club members to help celebrate this fantastic milestone by registering your cars for one of the above entry classes!

Also new to the lawn this year will be the addition of a “car corral” along the entrance road of the park. The car corral is free of charge and open to the public to display cars that are not participating in the judging. Space will be limited, but, because usually there are many interesting cars that end up hidden in a parking lot somewhere, the car corral will exist simply to highlight the level of automotive enthusiasm that makes an event like the Deutsche Marque Concours so popular year after year!

The Deutsche Marque Concours d'Elegance remains free of charge to spectators and the Concours entry fee will be kept the same as in years past: $30 per car prior to April 27 and $40 per car after that and on the day of the show. Each Concours entry fee includes a 2014 Deutsche Marque Concours Wine and Cheese Awards Reception ticket. Additional Reception tickets can be purchased for $10 each.

Please understand that in order to maintain fairness in judging, you must have your car both registered and in position on the lawn well before judging starts at 10:30 a.m., preferably by 10 a.m.. If your car is selected for an award, the announcement will be made at the 3:00 p.m. Awards Reception. Please be present at the Awards Reception to receive it, otherwise it must be awarded to the runner-up in attendance at the Reception.

To ensure this event runs smoothly, we invite you to volunteer your time. Volunteer opportunities include setting up our registration tent area, guiding entrants to lawn parking spots, handing out registration materials, participating as a Concours Judge, setting up our Awards Reception area, and helping to leave the facilities as we found them. Your input is very much appreciated!
