2025 VRG Election Ballot

Vintage Racer Group (VRG)

Aug 13, 2024 - Aug 31, 2024

Thank you for taking part in the 2025 VRG Election Process. The VRG Board consists of nine Directors. Each year, three of the nine are elected to a three-year term.

Each Director is limited to serving three consecutive terms, i.e. a total of nine years. A Nominating Committee, consisting of one Director and two club members at large, solicits candidates from our club membership. Once the Election of Directors is complete, the nine Directors will meet and chose the Club Officers for the upcoming year from among their ranks.

For the 2025 Election (for the term of 2025-2027), the candidates are as follows:

Incumbents:

Ian Wisbon

Ian started his racing career with the VRG in 2011 and has been a member since. As a child his father Jim would take him to Mid-Ohio for PPG-CART Indycar, the SCCA Runoffs, and F1 at Montreal and Indy. Living in Pittsburgh, attendance at the PVGP was an annual event, where a love for all things vintage racing began, and eventually resulted in starting a small family owned race prep shop, B&W Autosport with Scott Buriak. Ian is the current Vice President of VRG, handles the VRG IT responsibilities, is a co-chair for the PVGP Historics at PittRace, and races a silver & black 1961 Austin Mini “Duckworth”. Ian resides in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Betsy - a fellow VRG racer and volunteer - and their two fur children, both Papillons - Genevieve and her younger brother Arthur Francis. Ian works in autonomous vehicles and when not at the race track, enjoys ska/punk/classical/chiptune/all music, hazy DIPAs, and working at the B&W shop.

Scott Janzen

I’ve been fascinated by anything with engines and wheels since I was a little kid. I bought and “restored” my first car before I had a driver’s license, and owned two more (a Sprite and a Midget) before I finished high school. I’ve lost track of how many cars I’ve owned, but the list includes multiple Jaguars, Austin Healeys, Triumphs, Sunbeams, Fiats, Hondas, BMWs, Saab, Alfa, MG, Porsche, Ginetta, Renault, a ’49 Ford flathead, a ’47 Chevy, a LeGrand - everything from a two stroke three cylinder to a V12. I was a spectator for years at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen, but racing did not start until my employer offered to pay for any educational experience its employees wanted to take. I did a three-day Skip Barber Formula Dodge school and was hooked. I promptly went out and bought a basket case Formula Ford. Oops. Two years later, I bought the Triumph GT6 that I am still racing. I joined VRG when I ran my first race with the club in the Triumph at the Shenandoah track at Summit Point – how many years ago was that?

I got into racing for the cars, but have found that the friendships and camaraderie are a huge part of the experience. For me, this club embodies the low key, grass roots, but very committed approach to racing and car preparation that I enjoy. Like most of you, I live for these race weekends, and I’m glad to contribute back to the group that’s been such a source of fun for the past fifteen-plus years. As some of you know, I’ve been on the board for six years, so this will be my third and last term, if re-elected.  In “real life”, I’ve been in the real estate development, investment and advisory field for about thirty-five years, I own and manage two businesses, and can offer negotiating, transactions, legal and financial skills as a club officer – I’m good at getting things organized and completed. My wife and I live in a northern Philadelphia suburb – the “no-longer-kids” are 32 and 34, out on their own, leaving me more time to play with cars.

Jeff Tapolci

My name is Jeff Tapolci (pronounced Tap-ole-sigh). I have been racing since 2015 when Keith Lawrence recruited me to take the VRG school. After the VRG school, I found a 1969 MGB that I purchased and drove. Later that year, Keith and I bought a 1975 Caldwell D-13 Formula Vee for our kids to use. In 2016 my son Zachary attended the VRG school in the D-13 and obtained his license later that year. In 2019, my other son Michael attended the VRG school and drove the MGB. We sold the MGB, and now he drives a 1967 Autodynamics MK V Formula Vee. I regularly race a 1962 Lotus Super Seven and a 1969 Lynx Formula Vee. I have also raced a Merlyn Formula Ford with FFCS and a 1993 Caracal Formula Vee with Challenge Cup/Drivers Cup. In addition to racing with VRG, I volunteer at the VRG Driver's School and am a member of the Driver's Committee. Most of my career has been operating a family business that invests and operates in technology. In my spare time, I love skiing, fitness, and photography.

New Candidates:

Eric Russell

It’s an honor to be asked to put my ‘name in the hat’ for VRG’s Board of Directors. I began spectating vintage sports car racing at Lime Rock & Watkins Glen in the mid 1980’s. Driving was always a dream but it wasn’t until the turn of the century that I dared to make it a reality. By then my MGA was in need of re-restoration. I considered buying a race car but then it wouldn’t have been my race car. It took until 2012-2013 to finish the restoration/transformation. (It only needed three things:rebuild the drive train, repair the body and replace the chassis…) I signed up for VRG’s Driver School in May of 2014. The instructors did not suggest a different hobby (like cribbage) and I was awarded my Provisional License.

Since then LeAnn & I have attended 4 to 6 vintage race events each year. I have volunteered with VRG’s Driver Committee and LeAnn & I have agreed to take over registration for the Jefferson 500. We also enjoy helping with the Driver School. I sat in the Timing Tower at VRG’s Thompson, CT event this year to learn about becoming a Race Steward. (Tracy did not kick me out so that’s a Good Thing.) Since retiring I “work” a few days a month at VIR as a Corner Worker (Flagging & Communication).

Kenny Williamson

Kenny hails from a family of both a racers and longtime military service.Kennys father was a Marine, Grandfather was a WWII Marine, Great Great grandfathers on both sides of his family fought in the American Civil war (on both sides…) and seven generations back fought in the American Revolution. Kenny Enlisted in the Marines at 17 and served for a total of almost 25 years, 14 years as an Enlisted man, Non-Commissioned Officer, Staff Non-commissioned Officer and 11 years as a Commissioned Officer. He has served in various billets on Helicopters as an electrician, mechanic, Aerial Observer, Door Gunner, Naval Aircrewman and Naval Aviator (pilot). Those billets over his career included multiple Cold War deployments, service at the Presidential Helicopter Squadron and Multiple Combat deployments to include serving as a Command-and-Control Pilot for General Mattis for the Invasion of Iraq and flying CasEvac (Casualty Evacuation) for Operation Phanton Fury, the second battle of Fallujah. He also served as a Flight instructor in intermediate and advanced airframes. Upon military retirement Kenny was hired to serve as the Lead Pilot for the US Ambassador in Afghanistan. Flying duties for the State Department included flying such dignitaries as Heads of State, the Speaker of the House, the Secretary of State, Senators, Congressman, and many other high ranking government officials under duress in the austere environments of Afghanistan.

Kenny’s racing DNA includes a father Ken that was a longtime MG racer, an Uncle Carl that successfully campaigned Formula Fords for many years and multiple championships, a sister Paige that was an instructor with VRG until a career at Ferrari monopolized all her time (she is now the Vice President of Sales at Ferrari…) brother Ron was a track champion in Street Stocks on both dirt and asphault and cousin David was a track champion at Port Royal Speedway racing Sprint cars.

Kenny’s racing life started by growing up riding motorcycles and racing both motorcross and flat track during his High School years. He continued by racing sportbikes while on active duty, to include finishing second twice in the WERA nationals. Kenny returned to racing in 2016 by racing a 1963 MGB with VRG, VDCA, SVRA and the PVGP, and has since transitioned to a 1961 Elva Courier and a 1969 Nerus Silhouette Formula F100 sports racer. Kenny currently serves the VRG as the Chairman of the Driver Committee and as the Chairman of the Driver Eligibility Committee. He is ready, willing and able to serve in any capacity that will help our organization and its racers…

Mike Moore

I joined the VRG in 2013 after completing the driver’s school, and I currently race a red TR4 in medium bore. Joining VRG was one of my best decisions; I’ve met many talented drivers and made lasting friendships. For the past two years, I have served on the drivers’ committee, working to give back to the organization and ensure that our drivers remain informed about the rules and philosophies of VRG. In addition to my time with VRG, I have raced with VARAC, HSR, VSCDA, and PVGP, gaining valuable insights from each club. I am running for the board to leverage what I’ve learned from these organizations to enhance our procedures at VRG.

As a CPA with my own firm, I am also interested in eventually taking on the role of treasurer to help manage the club's finances and allow Scott Janzen to focus on other initiatives. I believe my experience and commitment will be an asset to the VRG community.
