Buddy Gregory

Meet Buddy Gregory: engineer by day, unapologetic car nerd by… also day (and night). Buddy’s love affair with cars started the moment he brought home his first sports car—a Porsche 914—and it’s basically been full-throttle ever since. He began instructing with PCA way back in 1976, and he’s the kind of enthusiast who doesn’t just drive the cars—he works on them. Brakes? Timing belts? Four-wheel alignments? No problem. He even tackled a full engine rebuild on that 914 once, because apparently “weekend plans” can mean “rebuild a motor.” Today his garage lineup is proudly and unapologetically German: a 1979 Porsche 911SC, two 1999 A4s, and a 2005 A4. (Buddy’s loyalty is strong. Autobahn strong.) Buddy joined the Audi Club so early it was basically around the same time dirt was invented. What keeps him involved? The people—friendly, welcoming, and always ready to lend a hand. While he enjoys high-speed track driving, Buddy’s true happy place is winter driving and anything loose-surface where the car gets to dance a little. Can you say, left foot braking and trailing throttle oversteer. Leadership-wise, Buddy has been all in: NAAC Vice President in 2011 and 2012, President in 2013, 2014, and 2015, and he currently serves as NAAC’s treasurer. And he’s not a “sit back and vote” board member—he’s hands-on, actively helping expand the number and variety of club events. Think wine tastings, picnics, road rallies/tours, auto restoration tours, plus tech sessions on engine performance, brakes, alignment, VAGCOM, dyno testing, and tires. He’s also been the event master for NAAC’s winter driving school for 10+ years—because if there’s snow involved, Buddy is probably already there setting cones. And now? Buddy says he’d be genuinely honored to continue serving as one of your board members for another three-year term. |

My automobile addiction started out in Los Angeles in 1974 after graduating from college in Boston. As a then “Ford guy” my goal was to obtain a 1966 Shelby GT350. After lots of searching I bought one in 1975. The car was fully restored by me, except for a new paint job. It was featured on the cover of Car Craft magazine in February of 1978. I enjoyed lots of track time at the infamous Willow Springs Raceway north of LA as a member of the original Cobra Owners Club. Carroll Shelby himself drove my car at the first Shelby convention in Oakland, CA I have been an Audi fan since buying a 2003 A6 2.7T. Not racing it per se but it got me fully immersed in the awe of a great performer. Currently, I own a 2014 S6 and work at keeping it in top shape. Over the past years, I have attended many Audi Club events and shown strong support for the local club NAAC where I am currently on the Board of Directors. I also participated in the Audi Experience some years ago at the Loudon, NH speedway, getting to drive an R8. Our local chapter is strong, a result of careful planning of events, membership and finances. As a Director, I have a history of collaborating with the other Board members to keep the level of Audi enthusiasm strong and to help in the planning of events of interest to our members. Professionally, I retired ten years ago after 35+ years in the investment management industry. I continue to be active in the Boston CFA Society and was Chair of the Wentworth Institute Endowment Investment Committee for 13 years. I still have lots of involvement with several other investment and audit committees.
