Autox Sunday
An SCCA Solo Event hosted by CASOC

El Toro Fields - May 1, 2011

For those of you that haven't experience the thrill of autox, your decision to join us at AUTOX Sunday may just lead to an addiction.  Some who try it never leave.  Others move on to different forms competition.  But there's one thing that all who come have in common ........we're a family who has taken our driving skills to a level that makes us some of the most proficient drivers in the country.

What is Autox? - Autoxing is a safe, low-speed motorsport where drivers must negotiate a course marked by pylons with their cars. Cars are sent out one at time with about 20 seconds between runs. Top speed in autox is typically no faster than speeds you would find on public roads, thus most cars only need working seat belts and drivers only need a helmet for safety. Courses are typically laid out in empty parking lots or air strips. Our courses are usually about a mile in length and take between 45 seconds and 90 seconds to negotiate. Courses contain a series of elements such as curves, corners, and slaloms that test the driver’s skill and the car’s agility. Cars are separated into classes based on Sports Car Club of America rules for national classes as well as California Sports Car Club supplemental regulations for local classes. Events are timed and the fastest time in the class wins.  For a video explanation of the autox experience, check out this documentary about the sport produced by Stephen Chiang.

What is Autox Sunday? - For some, Autox Sunday is our time to show the world, well at least our friends, just how well we're able to negotiate the course in cars we've prepared for competition.  This is for bragging rights, plain and simple.  For others, Autox Sunday is a time to learn, both about ourselves and our cars.  It's about becoming a better driver and a better person.  But for all, it's about having fun and making new friends.

No Experience Necessary - While you may have never thought much about improving your driving skills, things you'll learn about your car and yourself may just keep you out of trouble by giving you the tools to negotiate our roads and highways safely.  By coming to Autox Sunday, you will become a better driver .......GUARANTEED!

Novices - We at CASOC and CSCC welcome new participants to the sport.  Our autoxs are work/run events and our organization is not for profit.  We're all volunteers.  Everyone pitches-in and shares in the work as well as the fun.  It is important that you show up to work on time and complete your work assignment.   We realize that getting started can be confusing.  To help you get acclimated, a Novice Coordinator will be there to answer questions and help familiarize you with the course and procedures.  Course walks to help you with learning the course will leave the starting line @7:45am and during the lunch break.  At the  completion of the course walk, you'll get a briefing covering course safety and operating procedures.  Once the event begins, instructors will be available to help you as little or as much as you want.  We're a very friendly group, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask any of you're fellow participants.  A smile and a courteous attitude will go long way toward making you autox experience a great one.  For more information to help you get started, check out our novice guide.

What to expect - With daytime highs averaging 73 degrees, a first class autox course designed by the CASOC team combined with that fabulous El Toro grip, we should be in store to a great day of fun and competition.
