About this event
Thank you for choosing The Thunderhill Open!
The Open is a celebration of everything modern grassroots track culture — club racing, drifting, music, food, vendors, games, live stream, and evening hangs. It’s kind of a golf spoof too, so no trophies, but blazers will be awarded to the winners. Some other golf jokes too.
Road Racing Classes
(Drift info further down)
Group 1 – Spec Miata — Limited to 50 entries
Group 2 – Western Touring Car Championship
Group 3 – RushSR West
Group 4 – Spec E46
Group 4 – Spec E30
Group 5 – Formula Awesome, presented by World Speed
Non-Traditional Class Collections
We’re doing something a little different. Instead of housing, operating, and policing seven rulesets (including drift) that each have their own cultures and quirks, we figured it’s a better experience for everyone if we just go straight to the experts.
We’ve partnered with race groups directly — but separately — so these group leads will be in charge of rulesets, tech, and pre-event questions specific to their class.
Example: What tire are we on for the SE46? Ask your group lead.

Road Racing Format
Being that most of what we’re doing is pretty non-traditional, we figured — why not do the same with the format?
We’ve always loved the heat-based structures popular in karting and dirt series across the country. Here’s what to expect:
-
A single practice session Saturday morning
-
Four heat races
-
Heat 1 starts with a random grid
-
Finishing position from each heat sets your grid for the next
-
Heat 3 finish sets your starting position for the Main
-
The weekend podium is based on the finishing position in the Main
Heat races will be 8 laps (not time-based), and the Main is scheduled for 12 laps.
There will be a Friday test day available as an add-on option during registration.
