Bob Miller founded, operated, and sold At Speed Motorsports, which was a race car and general maintenance facility. The shop later closed under its new ownership. Bob and Rich Siegman then re-opened as At Speed Motors (www.atspeedmotors.com) with the main emphasis being sourcing and servicing Porsche cars.
At Speed Motors has recently enhanced its offerings to include two powerful methodologies to super clean Porsches along with two tried and true methods to keep them in top condition. The first cleaning technique that will be highlighted is Dry Ice Blasting. Dry ice blasting, also called dry ice cleaning, is an environmentally responsible cleaning and surface preparation technique. Dry ice blasting uses solid carbon dioxide (CO2) pellets or microparticles, which are blasted at supersonic speeds and sublimate on impact, lifting dirt and contaminants off the underlying substrate. It is non-abrasive, non-conductive, non-toxic, and non-flammable. It can uncover the original factory undercoating on your 1973 911 without damaging it in any way, clean up those cosmoline coated aluminum suspension components on your Cayenne, or knock the rust off any exhaust. If you want it looking like it did when it left the factory floor, then you need understand how this new process works.
The second cleaning technique that will be discussed and shown is vapor honing. Vapor honing is done in a cabinet that is similar to the cabinet that is used for sand or bead blasting. Unlike sand blasting, vapor honing combines water and glass pellet abrasive together to form a slurry which is propelled at the surface using compressed air. This slurry cleans by flow and not impact and can be used with the finest abrasives (1200 mesh). Unlike sand blasting, which leaves a 3-dimensional anchor pattern surface, vapor honing leaves a smooth surface. The surface appears almost polished if the finest abrasives are used.
At Speed has also launched into two traditional arenas to keep your car in top condition. The first is Paint Protection Film (PPF). Using a custom plotter, At Speed’s in house tech applies a PPF that is cut specifically to your car. Paint correction services are also offered to include contaminant removal, scratch/swirl mitigation, and chip filling.
The second arena is that of storage. Want to keep your car perfect? Don’t drive it. Store it in a humidity and temperature-controlled facility. At Speed now offers such a facility.
Chesapeake will be doing their famous Tech Event raffle for a $250 gift certificate at both events. The gift certificate is redeemable for services only from the hosting vendor. The gift certificate is our Club’s way of thanking the vendor for hosting the event.
Social distancing will be respected. If needed, the event will be run with simultaneous activities; e.g., the group may be cut into 3 groups and rotated through the various presentations. Think 3-Ring circus run by Moose & Squirrel.
