About this event
NOTE: This is Phase I registration for our Smith Mountain Lake Charity Tour. We're still making arrangements and working out all the event details. Once we're ready, we'll open Phase II to folks who have registered in Phase I. After you register here for Phase I and let us know your choice of accomodations, we'll email you the appropriate hotel group rate information so you can make your reservation.
Please join us for a weekend in the mountains and a tour around Smith Mountain Lake while raising money for charity and supporting the local food bank. This event will be limited to 70 attendees.
The registration fee is $40 per car with the proceeds going to the FSR charity of your choice.
Here's the weekend plan:
Thursday, 17 September
We'll make our way individually to Waynesboro, VA. You'll be on your own for lodging.
Friday, 18 September
The Friday morning meeting time and location in Waynesboro are to be determined. We'll then depart in Fun Run groups on a two-hour drive down the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, ending up in Bedford, VA for lunch. Lunch at the historic Blue Lady in Bedford will cost about $25 per person. This unique café in downtown Bedford is in an old bank that still has the vault doors!
After lunch, we'll continue south to Smith Mountain Lake and check-in at one of two reserved waterfront hotels. We have a block of rooms at both the Halesford Harbor Inn and the Westlake Waterfront Inn. Both are comfortable, two-star motels with easy parking and views of the water from the porch right outside your door! There are other options for lodging via VRBO and Airbnb around the lake if you prefer. Links to hotel websites so that you can take a look:
Halesford Harbor Inn
Westlake Waterfront Inn
After getting situated at our lodging, we’ll take a 15-minute drive to FSR members Jeff and Jennifer Coston’s beautiful lakefront home. We'll plan to arrive about 3PM with time to relax or go for a short boat tour around the lake courtesy of Jeff and his friends. Each boat has a 10-person capacity and there's time enough for everyone who is interested in taking a ride. Cocktails will start around 5PM with a taco-bar dinner at 6PM. The evening will cost about $35 per person.
If you are unable to start your weekend early to join us for the Blue Ridge Parkway drive on Friday, you are welcome to join the party at the Coston’s house on Friday night and pick up the rest of the weekend plan from there.
Saturday, 19 September
On Saturday morning, we’ll meet in Moneta, VA at a time and location to be determined. We’ll head out on a Fun Run, which will include a trip to the local food bank to donate either non-perishable goods or make monetary donations. The drive will include some great Virginia country roads around Smith Mountain Lake taking us to Rocky Mount, VA for lunch. The Rocky Mount Burger Company is well known by the locals and the staff is anxious for us to arrive in our Porsches!
The next stop after lunch is another local favorite – the Homestead Creamery – for some homemade ice cream! Or, if you prefer, you can drive directly back to your lodging and enjoy some time sitting by the lake. Dinner on Saturday night will be at Vinny’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria, a short drive from the hotels. The cost of the buffet style Italian dinner will be under $35 per person.
Sunday, 20 September
The Sunday morning agenda and the trip home is up to you. You can stay and enjoy the lake for while or head straight home.
It's going to be a fun, relaxing weekend!
Please hit the conttinue button to complete Phase I registration. We'll email hotel group rate info to those choosing to stay in one of the hotels.
