The evening will feature three exciting components:
- A captivating presentation by Pikes Peak International Hill Climb past champions Chris Lennon, Mike Collins, and David Donner sharing historical pictures and hysterical stories about the early days of racing in Colorado (with a focus on the early 1960s);
- A guided tour of the Shelby American Collection museum with knowledgeable docents
- A light meal with drinks for all attendees
Mainly featured will be Pikes Peak, Continental Divide Raceways, and La Junta Raceway (the oldest still-operating track in the state). Did you know these venues hosted the best of the best and drew tens of thousands of spectators? You may be surprised to see photos of grids containing cars now worth tens or hundreds of millions, legendary racers like Carroll Shelby, Roger Penske, Ken Miles, and more. Mike raced against all these guys in early Porsches, including the 718 RSK!
Special Venue Highlight: Our event will be held in the newly added building that houses the Shelby American Collection's spectacular GT40 collection (learn more here). These iconic Le Mans champions represent some of the most significant racing machines in history. Incredibly knowledgeable museum staff will be on hand to lead tours and share the amazing history of the GT40s and the rest of this world-class collection.
This will be a fun and interactive evening—bring your own memories, stories, or questions if this was all before your time!
See you there!
