Tour to the JuneSprints
Saturday, June 15, 2019
If you've ever driven to Road America, you know how straight and boring highway 57 is from just north of Milwaukee to Plymouth. How about taking a more curvy and scenic way to the track this time? Just west of highway 57 lies the Kettle Moraine State Forest, where many of the roads have "scenic" in their name. It may not be as fast (or boring) as highway 57, but it will certainly be more fun!
The tour will begin at Cracker Barrel in Germantown, WI. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., driver's meeting at 9:45, and first car off promptly at 10:00 a.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive early and have some breakfast before the driver's meeting.
The route is 60 miles (about an hour and a half driving time) on scenic roads with plenty of turns and elevation changes. We have planned a mid-point stop (if you choose) at Parnell Tower. The top of this 60-foot wooden observation tower is the highest point of elevation in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. It offers a panoramic view of the forest and surrounding farmland. On a clear day, one can see about 25 miles.
The end point will be the main gate at Road America. Pre-registered entrants and their guest will be provided tickets for entry into the June Sprints at no additional cost. Partake in the some of the finest trackside food in the country at locations around the track -- my favorite is The Gear Box Grill located inside the track near the pit lane entrance.
