The 38th Annual Portland Historic Races will take place July 11-13th, 2014, at Portland International Raceway. This years featured car is the Datsun 510 which was quite successful in the 2.5 Challenge back in the 1970s.  This was a very successful event for us in 2013, this year will be bigger and better than ever!!!  Park your car in the prime event location, on the grass, with plenty of room, and with the largest collection of cars at the event.  Why shine your car and park it way back in the dirt?

The Portland Historic Races, features an annual entry list of more than 250 prestigious historic race cars, representing a wide variety of manufacturers. The restored cars are divided into groups according to make, age and horsepower, where they are raced at high speeds close to or at their full potential. Boasting an open paddock, the Portland Historic Races allow enthusiasts the opportunity to see race cars up close and interact with the drivers and crew. The event also features a display of more than 700 collector cars and hot rods, a food and wine pavilion, a kid zone, an autocross, and a vendor midway.

The Portland Historic Races are produced and sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA). Established in 1977, HMSA specializes in race events with historic cars, emphasizing the preservation and proper use of historic race cars.

Yes, it is time again to start planning to attend the "best attended" club event of the year. You will not want to miss this event. The historic car races are held at Portland International Raceway here in Portland. As a car club, we are invited to display our cars along with all the other car clubs in local area. A "corral" will be set up for the cars at a prime spot inside the track area as last year. Our space allotted is dependent upon how many cars are registered so please register as soon as possible to get your space reserved.

For the cost of $45.00 you will get two (2) three-day passes to the races, reserved inside parking in the Corral on Saturday and Sunday (inside park parking on Friday), a commemorative dash plaque and an opportunity to participate in the Parade Lap around the actual track. Our club will have a tent set up with munchies and refreshments. The local BMW dealerships and businesses have always been very generous with their support by supplying door prizes for the Saturday
2 PM drawing. We have a number of new special events (including the Smash Car and Dunk Tank) planned throughout the weekend at the corral so don’t miss out!

Come join us for the Collector Car Club Autocross!!! The autocross is set-up in the pro-pits. All proceeds for this activity will go directly to the CommunityTransitional School. Hours of operation are: Saturday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. The autocross will not run during lunch time due to the car parade. The order of running will be first come, first serve, based on when you DRIVE FOR YOUR CLUB. The cost is $5 per run/per car. The Portland BMW Club has been the top fundraiser for this event every year - and donates heavily to this charity.

There will be more information coming in the upcoming weeks. Please keep your eyes open and check the website regularly. Polish up your car and plan on attending. The event goes on - Rain or Shine!

The BMW Corral is for BMW automobiles, motorcycles, and customs. If you want to bring out a special,  different make, unique or custom car or bike please contact Gary Heller in advance.  Most likely this is not an issue.  Other BMW Clubs and their members are always 100% welcome to park and participate at our corral.
