Pitt Race Full Track PDE Group 2 Solo and Group 3

Pittsburgh International Race Compl

About this event

This event is for approved Pitt Race Group 2 Solo and Group 3 on the Full Track.

This PDE event will be run in conjunction with the North American Road Racing Association's USGT series. They will be sharing the track time with the PDE and will have their own times for their practice, qualifying, and racing sessions. No open wheel run groups are currently planned. If time and space allows we will update this page.

PDE (Performance Driver Education) Learn the art of track driving in a controlled environment on the full 2.8 mile Pitt Race course. The goal is for you to continue to develop your skills behind the wheel as you experience a broad range of your car’s performance at a pace that is faster than Group 1 and Group 2. If you want to be a better driver with driving techniques based on racing, Pitt Race PDE is your source. No classroom or instruction is provided for Group 2 Solo and Group 3.  Participants are divided into the following Groups:

Group 2 Solo (Intermediate): Group 2 Solo is for drivers who have demonstrated an understanding of high-performance rules, safety, etiquette, and track regulations. Drivers in this group have been approved to Pitt Race Instructors. Previous experience with other organizations may also be considered for approval. Please contact the registrar with questions or to provide proof of applicable experience.

Please contact the track office or registrar for consideration.

Cost: (Single Day) $300 per driver, (Two Days) $500 per driver

Group 3 (Advanced): Pitt Race PDE drivers who are approved our chief driving instructor or maintain a valid competition license from an accredited race organization or school (SCCA, NASA, etc.). Previous experience with other organizations may also be considered for approval. Please contact the registrar with questions or to provide proof of applicable experience.

Cost: (Single Day) $300 per driver, (Two Days) $500 per driver

Event requirements

Vehicle Requirements:

  • To ensure your safety and that of the other participants, a Self Tech Form must be completed for every car on track. The form must be surrendered to event personnel before being released onto the track.  Forms are collected on the false grid (this will be explained in class and/or at driver’s meeting). A link to this form will be provided upon confirmation of registration.
  • This program requires all drivers to use their own qualified vehicle.
  • Convertible vehicles with operational factory rollover protection system are allowed. This includes factory roll bars, pop up rollover protection, and reinforced a-pillars designed to provide rollover protection. The car must be driven with the convertible top in the up and locked position. Arm restraints are recommended. Proof of factory rollover protection may be required.
  • All other convertibles require either an installed factory hard top or a four-point roll bar. If a roll bar is installed, the top of the driver’s helmet must be below the line from the top of the roll bar (not including padding) to the top of the windshield frame. Portions of the roll bar subject to contact by the drivers’ helmet must be padded with a non-resilient material with a minimum thickness of one-half inch. Arm restraints are recommended.
  • Vehicles with a high center of gravity and narrow track, including SUV's, Cross-Overs, Mini Vans, and 4WD pickup trucks, are not permitted.
  • Open wheel, prepared, race cars are permitted, but are subject to a modified schedule or run groups depending on registration volume.
  • Head and Neck Restraints are recommended for vehicles with 5-point or greater harness systems.
  • No passengers in any cars at any time, excluding approved instructors riding with a student.
  • Please print, complete, and bring the Pitt Race Vehicle Inspection Form with you to the event.

Driver Requirements:

  • Drivers may be asked to provide proof of run group eligibility. Please bring any log book, competition license, or other proof of appropriate diving history.

This is the TENTATIVE event schedule. It is subject to change and modification. The schedule will be run as "time certain", meaning the start and end times will be as close as possible to the indicated times.
