PCA FSR Fall 2017 HPDE At VIR

Virginia International Raceway

About this event

Please join us for our annual Fall 2017 Drivers Education (DE) at VIR in Alton, VA.  We'll be driving on the South Course on Saturday and Sunday (Sept 16-17).  We will only run 4 Groups (Novice, Intermediate, Solo and Advanced Solo).

The cost for Drivers: $425, for Instructors: $100, For Instructors Not Driving or for a limited amount of Instructors taking on two students the cost is complimentary.

We'll have our normal five Run Groups including: Novice Student (E/Green), Intermediate Student (D/Blue), Intermediate Solo (C/White), Advanced Solo (B/Black) and Instructor (Red).

We'll also host an "Intro to HPDE" session at mid-day on Saturday for those wanting just a "taste of the track".  This option will provide a classroom session followed by a single "at-speed" session with an instructor at a cost of $50. Please note you will also need to have your car Tech Inspected by a mechanic prior to this event.

We welcome all instructors to register for our Instructor (Red) run group but if you have not instructed with PCA First Settlers Region in the past please provide the PCA FSR DE Registrar or Chief Training Instructor a reference from a current Chief Instructor stating that you are an instructor in good standing with that club. Once the documentation is reviewed and you are approved to instruct with us the registrar will update your profile to allow you to register as an instructor.

This event is open to any driver 18 and over with a valid government issued driver's license and any make or model of car (no trucks or SUVs please) capable of passing a pre-event Technical Inspection are eligible for this event.

Please bring your valid/current drivers license and helmet with you to registration check-in at the track.

For event questions contact the registrar at  de@fsrpca.org

Event requirements

  • This event is open all drivers 18 and over with a valid government-issued driver's license. There is no restriction on car make/model (no SUVs or trucks, please).  Cars must pass technical inspections (see links below) to show they are safe for track use.  Drivers must wear an approved helmet and proper clothing (see links below).  All the following information, in more detail, is available via links in the DE section of the FSR Website and will also be in the information package that will be posted at the same link shortly after registration opens.  Wristbands will be issued at registration.
  • This event will run rain or shine.
  • This is NOT a racing event or racing school.  Our events focus on learning proper high performance driving techniques that will translate well into both street and track use.  Our goal is to provide a safe environment where all participants have fun and return home with their vehicle in the same condition as when they arrived, but having learned something new and made a few new friends.  We pride ourselves on our low-key, low stress events that will make you want to join us again.
  • All helmets must be Snell SA2010 or newer specification.   We do not accept M rated helmets of any year.  We have a "few" loaner helmets available for DE Intro drivers only available on a first come first served basis and we only have a couple of each size. Helmets will be inspected during the track Registration/Check-in process.
  • Convertibles:  Due to VIR legal and insurance requirements, no convertibles without proper FIXED roll over protection are allowed to participate in driving events. There are no exemptions or waivers.  The only exclusion to this requirement is lunch time charity laps where there is a pace car leading the field.
  • When registering, please select your experience based on the following but only as a guide.  We request that you keep your MotorsportReg.com experience profile up to date, particularly which run group you ran with in your most recent events, to assist us in making accurate run group assignments. If your driving logbook (on-line or photo/scan of a paper logbook) does not show a promotion by the CTI or other instructor to the next group higher we will not move you into that group.
    • Novice and Beginner student (E/Green) (typically 0-5 events)
    • Intermediate student (D/Blue) (typically 5-10 events and "Blue Solo" only with documented D/Blue Solo experience on this track)
    • Intermediate solo (C/White) (typically 10-40 events with solo exp)
    • Advanced solo (B/Black) (Typically 40+ events)
    • Instructors (Red) (certified as an instructor with PCA or another national club, and only with references from a CI)
  • Your preferred car number will be requested in the car info section of the registration form in your profile.  If there are repeat numbers within a run group, we'll give priority based on region instructors, volunteers, or by registration date and assign alternate numbers as appropriate.  Number assignments can be a particularly painful evolution, so please ensure your selection and alternate choices are correct.  Popular numbers are those that are easy to create using tape, so 1, 7, 0 and any combination of these are be popular and will guarantee conflicts, so pick something more unusual if you want to get it every time.
  • All cars must have numbers at least 8 inches high on each side of the car in a bright, easy to read contrasting color.  Shoe polish on windows, although a less preferred method, is permitted, but the number must be bright and readable from a distance.  Blue painters tape is acceptable, but must be visible (light green painters tape is also available for darker cars).  Participants must provide their own numbers.  Please remember--for your safety your numbers must be visible to corner workers working at great distances from the track.

  • All participants (instructors included) must have a tech inspection completed prior to the event and bring their completed and signed tech form with them to the track.  The inspection must be performed by a qualified mechanic (i.e. a professional) or club tech inspector and the form filled out, signed and stamped by the mechanic/inspector (if they have a stamp). The form will be turned in at track tech.  The tech form and specifics about how tech is conducted at the track for each run group is in the event info pack, available with all other docs and forms at the FSR website link below.
  • Convertibles must have a fixed roll bar or hoop extenders and pass the "broomstick" test. VIR does not consider factory "pop-up" roll bars sufficient roll-over protection on their track.

  • All participants, staff, and guests must sign the PCA FSR event insurance waiver at PCA FSR track registration.  Everyone is also required to sign VIR’s waiver at the main entrance when they arrive. If you have guests arriving seperately please ensure they tell the VIR security folks at the front gate they are PCA guests.  Otherwise they will be charged the VIR spectator fee for entry.
  • Camping and use of electrical power can be arranged through VIR.  Please contact them directly for info.
  • Please bring your own copies of the required forms listed in the event info pack.

  • VIR Specific Policies. Please understand that VIR has its own set up rules that all attendees must adhere to.  Most of these rules are located on the track  website at this link http://virnow.com/about/policies/  .  In addition to these policies VIR also does not allow drivers on the track during HPDEs that are not wearing long sleeved shirts and recommend that drivers of modified track or race cars wear a proper fire resistant racing suit.

  • Email updates will be provided to all registered participants when final run group and car numbers are assigned or new documents are posted online, i.e. the event schedule and instructor assignments.  If you have an issue with your group assignment, please contact the Registrar immediately after receiving your assignment.

  • The Event Information Pack, a pdf document which includes event specifics and all required forms, will be found in the Documents section of the FSR website or directly through this link , a track map and DE Student Tips.  Other event documents, such as the schedule  and instructor/student assignments, will also be posted there as they are published.  Once you register for the event, you will receive "heads up" emails as these new documents are posted.

Instructors: If you have never instructed with FSR, please provide your credentials/references via email to the Registrar or Chief Track Instructor BEFORE YOU REGISTER.  We require a reference from your current club's Chief Instructor stating that you are qualified and an instructor in good standing. We can then update your profile to show you as not just an Attendee but also as and Instructor allowing you to enter the Instructor specific registration page.

Our Red Group is our Red Instructor Group.  We request that our instructors drive in the Instructor (Red) Group.  However, our Advanced (Black) Group is used for instructor overflow. If you feel the need to run in the Advanced (Black) Group instead please contact the registrar before registering so a change can be coordinated.

You must have FSR on your list of clubs in your Motorsportreg.com profile for the registrar to add you as an instructor.  If you have any questions or are not sure how to proceed, please email the registrar and we'll steer you in the right direction.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Volunteers are always appreciated. We manage these events with a very small staff so any assistance is great. If you are not driving and wish to volunteer at this event we have a special Volunteer registration section for you.  If you are driving and can fill in some time volunteering during the event feel free to notify the registrar via the open question on the registration page drivers' registration sections.

Cancelation/Refund Policy:  Credit Cards are charged approximately two weeks prior to registration closing date.  We will send a an email notice alerting you about the impending charge and cutoff date for canceling.  Any cancelations up to that point will not incur a charge.

For cancelations after credit cards are charged,  please contact the DE Registrar (de@fsrpca.org).   No refunds will be issued after credit cards are charged.  A Motorsportreg.com CREDIT will be issued, allowing you to use the credit to register for a future DE (up to one year).

Cancelation requests must be made in writing through the motorsportreg.com cancelation button, which is located on the EVENT DASHBOARD page, accessible via MY REGISTRATIONS in your MotorsportReg.com account.  No-shows will not receive a credit/refund.
