North Georgia BBQ Progressive Rally-Deux
Saturday, 11 July 2026 11:00 am
Years ago, members of Peachtree took part in an innovative BBQ rally held in North Georgia. Because the experience was so positive, the participants requested a second progressive rally. Progressive means that you will enjoy a selected unique item at each of four different BBQ restaurants.
The rally will begin at JDs BBQ (4424 South Main Street, Acworth, GA). Since 2011, JDs (a staple of Acworth BBQ since 2003) operates in a uniquely renovated 1925 School building. Parking is behind the building where the rally participants will meet to begin their adventure. JD serves a unique blend of sweet North Carolina coleslaw. If you google JDs coleslaw, the popular side dish is a “creamy and tangy slaw.” JD has a large pit behind the restaurant where he roasts and BBQs whole pigs for events. Coleslaw sells for $4.00 for 8 ounces. I recommend the pint for $7.95, which is more than enough for two.
Meander seventeen miles to Williamson Brothers BBQ (1600 Marietta Highway, Canton, GA) described as a “meat loving smokehouse in a rustic dining hall.” Order the LARGE BBQ SANDWICH which costs $9.59 with tax. When asked, select the Texas Toast instead of the bun as you will get more meat. The sandwiches available are BBQ pork or chicken. Wiliamson Brothers’ large sandwich alone is a meal and a value. At lunch, you will see locals and workers. While the exact weight is unknown, the large sandwich contains a substantial portion of meat.
Waddle back to your Mercedes and drive seven and a quarter mile to Big Easy BBQ (2864 East Cherokee Drive, Canton, GA). Do not let the address fool you. Big Easy is in the Hickory Flat community (unincorporated) that is between Canton and Alpharetta. The location is behind McDonalds in a strip center across from Tractor Supply. The restaurant is a fusion of a “traditional smokehouse with a New Orléans flair.” Do not let the storefront fool you. Big Easy serves Cajun dishes (Poutine, Boudin, fried Alligator, and crawfish among others). What you order to eat in or to go is Corn Maque Choux (corn kernels cooked with bell pepper, onions, and seasoning with bacon. Thicken by milk, flour, and Cajun seasoning). The resulting sweet, spicy, and savory flavor is a blend of Native American and Creole cooking that is popular in rural Louisiana. A single serving is $4.34 with tax. Try it and you will want more than one serving.
Your final leg is back almost seven miles toward Atlanta to Rally Point Grille (10009 Highway 92, Woodstock, GA). Two old, retired Marines originally named their restaurant/bar Semper Fi. However, when they outgrew that hole in the wall, they found that the Marine Corp would not let them use the name. So, they adopted the name Rally Pointe (a coordination point on the way to an objective). The location is in a strip center opposite Sam’s Warehouse. You will recognize the location by the flagpole in the parking lot flying the Marine Corp flag and the POW flag. Have a drink and enjoy a dessert of either good southern banana pudding ($4.99) or Ultimate Brownie Sunday ($7.99). The restaurant features military memorabilia and a place seating by the door for a missing POW soldier. Expect mixed drink specials and a good cold beer. The barbecue tastes great. Though, you are full at this point.
The cost is $15.00 per car, so fill the car with people. Guests of members are welcome when accompanied by a member.
Registration deadline is July 4, 2026.
