North Carolina Autocross Championship

MCAS Cherry Point

About this event

Visit SCCA web site

The North Carolina Region SCCA is proud to announce the 2012 North Carolina Autocross Championship!  NCAC is an annual event that rotates between the five North Carolina autocross clubs; NCR-SCCA, Central Carolina Region SCCA, Highlands Sports Car Club, Triad Sports Car Club, and Tar Heel Sports Car Club.  2012 is NCR’s first ever time hosting NCAC, so in celebration of this milestone we’re going to our premier autocross site: the Marine Corp Air Station at Cherry Point in Havelock, North Carolina.  The event date is October 6th & 7th.  At Cherry Point we battle it out on the Foxtrot Taxiway, a mile long stretch of asphalt sure to excite anyone who’s ever carved through autocross cones.  It is truly a phenomenal site, but it comes with some specific requirements for the Marine Corp to let us use it.

EVERYONE MUST PRE-REGISTER.  Click below to continue.

Event requirements

EVERYONE MUST PRE-REGISTER.  MCAS Cherry Point is a restricted-access active Military base. Registration WILL CLOSE Sunday September 23rd at 11:59 pm.  If you are not pre-registered by then you will not be on the Gate-Access List and you will not be able to participate.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

ALL questions asked by the registration software are MANDATORY, including the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.  NCR does nothing with all of this information but send it to the Marine Corp for their background checks.  We know it’s a lot to ask for, but we’re getting permission to autocross on a runway on an active Marine Corp Air Station.  It’s worth it, trust us.

Upon arrival to Cherry Point on Saturday morning all drivers will have to present their ID to be checked off of the approved Gate Access List.  Passengers are not subject to the ID check.  We only need the information of people who plan to drive through the gate.  There is a “Spectator Only” class in pre-registration that can be utilized for any guests who may be driving separately, but not competing.  All vehicles are subject to a search upon entry to the base.

When driving on base speed limits are strictly enforced, as well as no cell phone use.  Please keep in mind that you are a representative of NCR while on base.  We have a great working relationship with Cherry Point and don’t need anything jeopardizing our use of the base.

No overnight parking on site.  We are still working on this with Cherry Point. We’ll let you know at Check-In if it changes, but don’t count on it.  If it does happen it will be by special pass, that must be displayed overnight, issued at the gate after an inspection of trailer and race car.  Parking is available at the Havelock Event Center behind the official event hotel for Friday night and Saturday if we don’t get the overnight parking go-ahead.  We apologize for the inconvenience; it’s all just part of being on an active base.

No camping on site.  This is final, sorry.

Directions to Foxtrot Taxiway:  Enter the base using the Main Gate from Fontana Blvd.  Follow Roosevelt Blvd until you pass the end of the big runway (to your right).  Take the next right onto Access Rd.  You'll pass Duffy Rd on your right, about a 1/4 mile farther there will be a driveway into the woods on your right.  That’s the turn onto Foxtrot, it is unmarked other than our “Auto-X” sign, so you have to be looking for it.  If you get to Rifle Range Rd you've gone too far.

Speaking of the Club Cup:

In NCR we’ve run the Cape Fear Cup, our own team competition, for the past 6 years.  One thing we’ve learned with that is that it’s not the top drivers that win for a team, it’s how deep the team is.  The other thing we’ve learned is that a team can’t win if they don’t have good attendance.  So with that said, to really show what each team has for this year's Club Cup Competition: We’re counting the Top 15 PAX times from each club!

If more than 2 teams don’t have 15 participants then we will count however many the second lowest club has, with a minimum of 10 racers.  Any teams that cannot meet the attendance requirements will be placed according to how many drivers they have participating.  Lowest attendance is 5th, second lowest is 4th, etc.  You can’t finish if you don’t start!

Entry Fee:  We are NOT accepting online payments.  Since pre-registration is required and closes so early cancellations can be a hassle.  If you’re on the fence about coming, PRE-REGISTER anyways!  It doesn’t cost you anything if you don’t come.

2-day entry fee includes Event T-shirt, Saturday Night Social, and potentially an event trophy!

2-day entry: $60 for SCCA, HSCC, TSCC, or THSCC members, and Active-duty military. $70 for non-members.

1-day entry: $35 for SCCA, HSCC, TSCC, or THSCC members, and Active-duty military. $40 for non-members.

  • Non-SCCA members will have to fill out an SCCA Weekend Membership, but there will be no additional cost if you’re a member of any NCAC Club.
  • Drivers must be 16 years of age and hold a valid drivers license. Drivers under 18 years of age must bring a signed SCCA minor waiver. All vehicles must pass a technical inspection and helmets must be SNELL 2000 or newer. Loaner helmets are available.  All Annual Techs from NCAC clubs will be honored.
  • Car Numbers are limited to 199 or less.  Numbers/Class Letters will not be provided by NCR.  Contrasting colors of tape are allowed, if they are legible.  Blue tape on a blue car will not be accepted.  We suggest printing your numbers/class at home.  A pdf of all classes and numbers as well as a reminder of the SCCA’s Number Size guidelines can be found at: http://www.ncrscca.com/solo-vehicle-identification-rules
  • We are running current SCCA Solo Rules and National Solo classes, including the supplemental Road Tire stock classes.  RTA, RTR, and RTF will have an additional PAX multiplier of .975.  There is a Maximum of 2 drivers per open class, and 2 drivers per ladies class, per car.
  • Ladies classes will be indexed by Category; Stock Ladies (SL), Street Touring Ladies (STL), Street Prepared Ladies (SPL), and Modified Ladies (ML) which is all SM, P, or M ladies.
  • There will be no Pro, Novice, or additional Tire classes for the event as well as no Road Tire Ladies since the RT classes are already indexed.
  • Minimum of 4-runs per day of competition.  We will have number of runs and Run/Work Groups finalized before Friday Check-In.  We’ll only run 4 on Sunday to allow for as much travel time as possible.

    Shredded Pork BBQ
    Chicken
    Potato Salad
    Coleslaw
    Hushpuppies
    Sweet Tea

The Dinner cost is included with the purchase of a 2 day registration. Those wishing to attend the social that are not 2-day competitors will need to purchase a dinner ticket at the door; $10 per person.

Lunch: We're working on having a concessions vendor to be on site both days for lunch.  There are a few restaurants on base, but it will be easier for everyone if we can get a food vendor out there selling burgers and dogs.  If for some reason we can't make concessions happen we'll send out a mass email to let everyone know to make alternative plans for lunch.
