About this event
The Crane Estate and Atlantic Coast of Northern Massachusetts
North Atlantic Audi Club North of Boston Tour
On Saturday, November 5th we will start our day at Harry Ball Field (a Little League baseball park) at Exit 47 off Rte. 128 in Beverly, MA, with plans to depart for the tour at 12:00 PM. If needed, there is a rest area on Rte 128 North just before the exit where you will find gas, food and restrooms to prepare for the day ahead.
At noon we will push off and make our way from Beverly, through Hamilton and Essex (we finished last year's Cape Ann Tour at Great Marsh Brewery in Essex) to the Crane Estate and Crane Castle in Ipswich. We will spend about an hour there to tour the castle and grounds. The view down the expansive rolling lawn to the beach and ocean is breathtaking. Cost of admission will be included in your event entry fee. Restrooms are available here. There may not be any readily available for the remainder of the tour so plan ahead.
From the Castle we will make our way to Great Neck in Ipswich and stop to stretch our legs at Pavilion Beach. Great Neck has amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean, Ipswich River, and surrounding marshes.
After enjoying the views, we will continue north through Ipswich, past historic colonial first period homes, to Newbury where we will make our way to Plum Island. Plum Island is an 11-mile-long barrier island with views of Cape Ann (again where we toured last year) and New Hampshire. We will stop here for a brief respite to look at the waves.
The last leg of our journey will take us inland from Plum Island, through Newbury to Byfield, via rural back roads to The Rusty Can, famous for its delicious barbeque. We expect to arrive late afternoon, about 4 hours after starting the tour. Here we hope you all will stay for dinner, pairing with old and new friends. It may be busy and require a wait. If too long, there are other dining options not far away in Newburyport and elsewhere that can be considered. Rte. 95 is also conveniently located close by to get you to an alternative dinner venue or home.
