About this event
In Vermont, a “GAP” isn’t just a road—it’s an adventure carved straight through the spine of the Green Mountains. These high mountain passes and notches slice across the rugged ridgelines, creating dramatic east‑west corridors for drivers, cyclists, and hikers alike.
Mountain passes form the natural dip between two peaks, giving highways just enough room to climb up and over elevations that soar between 2,000 and 2,400 feet. Four of the most iconic routes make up the beloved local driving challenge known as “LAMB”—Lincoln Gap, Appalachian Gap, Middlebury Gap, and Brandon Gap. And of course, Vermont’s backroad faithful know that Roxbury Gap and Rochester Gap deserve a nod of their own.
Because these roads cut directly through alpine terrain, expect the full mountain‑pass experience: tight switchbacks, steep grades, sweeping vistas, and the occasional moment where smooth pavement suddenly gives way to classic Vermont dirt. It’s all part of the charm— and the challenge—of exploring the state’s most dramatic mountain crossings.
Start is the McDonalds at Exit 4 of Route 89 in Randolph VT. Check-in is at 9:30, leaving at 10AM. Lunch will be in Middlebury VT, followed by and afternoon of driving ending up at Worthy Burger in South Royalton which is south of where we started. The question everyone asks: Are you Worthy?
