Please join us for a very special evening of Jazz with Chucho Valdés an internationally famed virtuosos piano player form Cuba.
History:
Chucho Valdés is a conservatory-trained scion of a storied musical family (his father is Bebo and his son Chuchito, both piano players), he’s spent much of his career in the vanguard of Latin music.
As a co-founder of the seminal ensemble Irakere, he forged an unprecedented synthesis of ritualistic Afro-Cuban percussion, post-bop improvisation, European classical music, rock and R&B.
His group, Irakere, launched the careers of several other well-known Cuban musicians, including trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and multi-reed master Paquito D’Rivera.
More recently he’s stepped forward to stake an indisputable claim as jazz’s most imposing pianist.
Starting with 1998’s Blue Note CD Bele Bele En La Havana, he’s released a series of ever more astonishing albums, most recently 2013’s Border-Free, an electrifying session featuring his talent-laden Afro-Cuban Jazz Messengers.
