M113/CLK55 Radiator and Water Pump Replacement

MBCA Peachtree Section

About this event

Join us for a Gary's Garage Tech Talk video-teleconference (VTC) on Wednesday evening, July 20th, 2022 at 7:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Peachtree President Gary Edwards, author of the Gary's Garage technical article series in Peachtree Sections newsletter, presents "M113/CLK55 Water Pump and Radiator Replacement".  Gary has two high-mileage W208 CLK55s and has recently replaced two radiators and a water pump.  Though these jobs are relatively straightforward and well within the capabilities of the home hobbyist, there are some twists and some special tools required.

Gary will discuss what prompted the replacement, the special tools needed, and what he learned doing these jobs. This is not intended to be a DIY guide; Gary recommends always using the factory workshop manual procedure to guide your work, rather it's a discussion of what he would have like to have known before doing these jobs. If time allows, he will also discuss other repairs he has had to do on the CLK55s.

Since the M113 engine is used in many Mercedes, this will have general applicability to owners of many other chassis.  The radiator replacement is a bit more specific to that chassis but the general flow is similar.  Gary points out that these radiators were replaced in the range of 165,000 to 190,000 miles, and the water pump replacement was at about 190,000 miles, but he does not believe it was the original water pump.

IMPORTANT ZOOM VTC SECURITY NOTE: We are very well aware of security issues that have raised past concerns about ZOOM VTCs. ZOOM has implemented many security fixes over the previous years and we have also instituted a number of security precautions, which include a set of ground rules that will be covered at the start of the presentation. As these ground rules constitute part of our security system, it is important to follow them.

You must log in with your first and last name. You may have to change your display name when you log into Zoom. No participants will be admitted who are using pseudonyms i.e. such as fastbenz@email.com or benzfan@email.com, Jims ipad, or jimsphone, etc  Once you log in you should change your login name in Zoom if it is anything other than your first and last name.

After you register, you will get a confirmation email - make sure you get this because this email address is the one we'll use to send you the link to the ZOOM meeting.  We will send this out the evening before the event, with a follow-up the day of the event for any later registrants. If you don't get the confirmation email, then either you aren't registered or your email address is incorrect in motorsportreg - and you won't have the information you need to get in to the meeting. Contact Gary if you have problems with this.

We will plan to have the ZOOM meeting up by 6:40 PM so we can hopefully get technical issues out of the way.  For questions, contact Gary Edwards by e-mail at edwardsgw@nu-z.net or by phone at (757) 831-9556.
