About this event
Your car, our skidpad. The Grassroots Motorsports Skidpad Challenge is the ultimate test of lateral grip. All machines are welcome, from stock supercars to one-off, pavement-shredding creations.
We’re issuing an open invitation for all car owners to attack our skid pad at Gridlife ATL 2019. Entry is free with your ticket to Gridlife. It's a very safe and simple competition: Drive your car around the skidpad as fast as possible. Fastest time wins–period.
Where: Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.
When: Saturday, August 24 at Gridlife ATL 2019.
How: Registration is free, but you must register in advance. You’ll need a 2010 or newer Snell helmet, too, though we’ll have loaners available. Space is limited and this event will fill up, so register now before you miss out.

Rules
The Basics:
This event is meant to be a fun editorial exercise so that Grassroots Motorsports can show its readers what cars, layouts and modifications tend to grip better. Vehicles found in violation of the spirit of the event may run for exhibition.
Competition Venue:
The competition will consist of a one-day event at the skidpad located at Road Atlanta. Entrants will run on a first-come, first served basis. Only one car will be present in the skidpad at a time. Upon arrival, entrants will proceed to the registration area to check in.
Entries:
There is no entry fee for this competition. However, competitors will need to purchase a ticket for Gridlife ATL in order to gain access to the skidpad. Drivers must be age 16 or older and have a valid state-issued driver’s license. Passengers must be 16 years or older. Snell SA2010 or SM2010 or newer helmets are required. Loaner helmets will be available.
Eligible Vehicles:
Any four-wheeled car is allowed as long as it passes the safety requirements. If you believe that your car meets the spirit of the rules but not the exact letter of the law, contact us to discuss eligibility of your entry.
Classes:
Classes for the Grassroots Motorsports Skidpad Challenge will be as follows:

FWD Street Tire: Front-wheel-drive cars running minimum 200-treadwear tires.

FWD Race Tire: Front-wheel-drive cars running any tires.

RWD Street Tire: Rear-wheel-drive cars running minimum 200-treadwear tires.

RWD Race Tire: Rear-wheel-drive cars running any tires.

AWD Street Tire: All-wheel-drive cars running minimum 200-treadwear tires.

AWD Race Tire: All-wheel-drive cars running any tires.

Vintage Street: Pre-’74 or continuation cars running minimum 200-treadwear tires.

Vintage Race Tire: Pre-’74 or continuation cars running any tires.
A class must contain at least three (3) entries. If the required entry number is not met, existing entries for that class will be bumped up to the next fastest class. GRM reserves the right to add or subtract classes as attendance dictates.
Safety:
The following will be required: all lug nuts present; functioning throttle return spring; positive battery tie-down; properly operating brakes; wheel bearings free of excessive play; properly secured seat; and tires free of any exposed cords or other defects. Additionally, all loose items shall be removed from the interior, and open cars running tires with a UTQG rating under 200 must have approved rollover protection. Cars that do not meet the SCCA’s Static Stability Factor will be relegated to tires with a UTQG rating of 200 or higher.
Teams that lose a wheel or send any other large or heavy item flying from their car will be disqualified from the event.
The GRM staff has the right to prohibit any car from competing at any time.
