About this event
Due to popular demand, this will be our 3rd Annual Tour to Morro Bay. This is an optional overnight trip. We are offering 1 and 2 night stays in Morro Bay with another driving tour on Sunday morning March 1st.
This tour was originally held in October of 2014 when Marty Goldsmith was our Tours Chair. Marty put together some of the best tours we've ever held. Most of the descriptions of this tour that you're reading were written by Marty, as well. We hope you come along on a terrific drive to a beautiful part of our Central Coast.
Due to the overall successes of our 2024 & 2025 Tours to Morro Bay, we have decided to run this tour again.
The central coast is one of our favorite tour destinations. Not only is the area filled with attractions, but the roads leading there are Porsche heaven.
On February 28th 2026 GPX is heading to Morro Bay for a weekend adventure. For those that choose to stay overnight, we have reserved a block of rooms at the San Marcos Inn. A very nice hotel with covered parking within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and the marina. You may choose to stay 1 or 2 nights, with a bonus tour on Sunday March 1st.
After our rendezvous in Woodland Hills, we will head north towards Ojai, head into Wheeler Gorge, then wind through Sespe Gorge, over Pine Mountain, and drop into Cuyama Valley. Leaving the pastoral valley, we’ll pass through the West Kern oilfield, touching Maricopa and Taft, and head for the Carrizo Plain. Here the formerly empty landscape has been decorated with huge solar-electric ranches. Then the road crosses the coastal range, and approaches the sea via Hwy 101. We’ll pass through Atascadero and drop into our destination, Morro Bay. We will be in time for lunch at the Great American Fish Company dockside restaurant.
All Porsches are welcome on Grand Prix Region Tours, that includes 4-door Porsches!
There are many attractions in the area. Best known is the Hearst Castle, which has an extensive program of guided tours. The back bay of Morro Bay offers opportunity for canoe and kayak rentals. The town of Cambria is not far away, and Morro Bay itself has many interesting shops and fishing-related activity. Morro Rock and the coastline can be quite spectacular, particularly in times of windy weather. There is a famous elephant seal rookery a short drive to the north, and the beginning of the Big Sur cliffs lies not far beyond, where the spectacular Ragged Point Lodge and garden is worth a visit.

They offer a hot breakfast every morning and complimentary wine each evening.
After the free Saturday afternoon, we recommend Dorn’s Original Breakers Cafe (probably the best in town) for dinner. It is a block from the hotel. They do not take reservations, so it'll be first come first served. When in Morro Bay, you might want to enjoy the seafood.
Those choosing to stay a second night have the option of going on a Tour on Sunday morning through the central coast mountain roads and the Paso Robles wine country, ending with lunch at one of the wineries.
There are many quality restaurants in Morro Bay. We will try to provide a list of recommendations a few days before the event.
