About this event
2019 Detroit Region SCCA Solo School
The Detroit Region Solo School is back! This drivers school is tailored for brand new autocross drivers and those with less than two years of autocross experience, and will focus on the very basics of autocross performance driving.
There is a classroom session on Friday, June 28th, that goes over the basics of how an event is run, basic solo safety information, and finally, basic performance driving concepts. The next day, June 29th, will consist of practicing these basic driving concepts in morning and afternoon driving sessions.
Sunday, June 30th is the Summer Heat solo. Registration for that event is separate from the school.

Event requirements
Solo School Instructor Requirements
Much like last year's Solo School, we're looking to get enough instructors such that we can pair two students with one instructor. We're going to be running an ABCD style event, with 4 heats in the morning and repeating those 4 heats in the afternoon. Students will alternate between driving and working the course with off-heat breaks. The goal is to get enough instructors so we don't have to go above the 2-1 student/instructor ratio; one change this year is that we will absolutely not go above the 60-student cap.
You don't need to be the best autocross driver in the world or a regular in the PRO class to be an instructor for the school. Most of the students will be very green novices with two years or fewer of autocross experience. I will also attempt to pair instructors and students driving like cars. There is enough flexibility in the school that we can swap instructors around with students should the need arise. But in general, all we are looking for is a willingness to coach novices (and the patience to work with them on some bad habits!), so if you're the type that likes to help out other drivers, I want you to sign up!
All instructors will receive 2 worker points ($10) that can be applied to DRSCCA events or your SCCA membership.
Solo School Volunteers
If you aren't looking to instruct but are willing to help out with the general Solo School setup and logistics, sign up so we can more easily track whom we have available. You may be called upon to help with the driving course setup, fetching water, donuts, or lunch, or as reinforcements for course worker or timing duties. Volunteers will recieve 1 worker point ($5) that can be applied to DRSCCA events or your SCCA membership.
