Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai Toy Drive & Picnic

We can make a difference
Please join Chesapeake PCA on July 9th for this blockbuster multi-part community service event. We will begin the day by gathering at Porsche Hunt Valley. From there we will drive down to the Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai where we will drop off toys for their kids and hear a presentation from the Clinical team and/or Child Life and Creative Arts Program staff. Sinai will be heavily advertising this event so I expect some children and their families will be in attendance. Afterwards, the Tour Committee will lead us through back roads in Baltimore County to Oregon Ridge Park where we will have a Mission BBQ lunch waiting. After lunch the Concourse Committee will hold an informal Concourse and there may be some additional activities.
Samuelson Children’s Hospital
When young children or teens are hospitalized or experience other healthcare situations, they may face difficult and potentially stressful events that can affect their ability to cope and move forward in life successfully. The certified Child Life Specialists at The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai help patients navigate these experiences by providing developmentally appropriate interventions that reduce stress and normalize their experience.
Toy Drive
Chesapeake participants are asked to bring new unwrapped toys for the kids at the Samuelson Children’s Hospital. The Child Life Program has provided us an Amazon link containing their preferred toys that will be used to make their kids stays just a little more bearable and comfortable. Please only buy toys from their list.

$20,000 Fundraiser
Related to the day’s events is our Fundraiser for the Samuelson Children’s Hospital. One way to help provide normalcy for their kids is through the availability of play options they may have at home, including gaming systems. The hospital’s PlayStations get a lot of use and, with the rapid advancement of technology, become outdated fairly quickly. With 26 inpatient rooms, additional outpatient pediatric clinic spaces, and group play areas, it can be costly to keep all of them current and working properly. Our fundraiser will allow them to update these gaming systems.
The first 20 donors who give $500 or more will be given Sinai and PCA swag. Please email your donation receipt to president@pcachs.org to be counted.

Oregon Ridge Tour
After the Sinai presentations, the Chesapeake Tours committee will lead us through some back roads in Baltimore County to our final destination at Oregon Ridge. The cars participating in the tour will be broken up into groups of 10ish cars each containing a lead and sweep vehicle. Directions and Driver Meeting notes for the tour will be emailed to participants a day or two beforehand.
Arts Pavilion at Oregon Ridge Lodge
Our final destination of the day will be in the Arts Pavilion at Oregon Ridge Lodge where we will have a BBQ lunch and participate in a Concourse and possibly other activities. Participants will park in the main lot.
Important note – we are at the Oregon Ridge Lodge and not the Oregon Ridge Nature Center
WHEN & WHERE
- When: 9 July 2023
- 8:30 begin assembling at Porsche Hunt Valley
- 9:00 Drivers meeting
- 9:15 leave Porsche Hunt Valley (everyone on own to caravan to Sinai but I will provide directions)
- 9:45 - 10:45 - toy drop off & Sinai Presentations
- 10:45 - bathroom break
- 11:15 - Drivers meeting
- 11:30 - first tour group leaves to Oregon Ridge
- 1:00 lunch
REGISTRATION
- Everyone must register to attend any or all of these events
- Everyone including passengers must sign a waiver for this event – Speedwaiver preferred
- Registration is limited to 150 people – only those who are registered and confirmed may join in the drive and the picnic
- Registration for just the Toy Drive is free
- Registration for the Tour and afternoon at Oregon Ridge is $20 per person and includes the use of the pavilion and a catered lunch
- Registration closes 7 July at 11:00 pm
