The annual Porsche-Corvette Challenge combines a traditional autocross event with an exciting shootout style challenge. 

This event is open to all Porsches and Corvettes only.

Schedule of the event:
6:30: Early arrival – setup begins.
7:30: Normal arrival time.
8:00 – 9:00 Registration and Tech
8:00 – 9:15 Course open for walking
9:15 Driver’s meeting. Course closed for walking.
9:30: First car off
~12:00 pm – Qualifying finishes. Qualifiers for Challenge round determined
~12:30 - Challenge round begins
~1:00 - Challenge completed, cleanup and trophy presentations.

$30 preregister $35 for walkup registration  for both Porsches and Corvettes*

*Only Porsches and Corvettes can be registered for this event. All other marques will have to wait for another day. 

 

Event requirements

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Helmet (Snell M or SA 2000 or newer)(a limited quantity of loaner helmets are available). Seat belts. Battery tied down. Car empty of loose articles. No major leaks.

You must be 16 or older, present a valid drivers license and a current PCA membership card (to receive the PCA registration price). If you have not prepaid you do not get to preselect your run heat. Drivers under 18 must have parent or legal guardian present.
 

Porsche-Corvette Challenge - Official rules

 

Event is open to all Porsches and Corvettes. The event will be held rain or shine.
 
Cars must meet all safety requirements. Cars may be modified but must have begun life as a Porsche or Corvette street car and must contain an engine block from a Porsche or Corvette street car. Cars must have 4 fenders. Any tire may be used including race tires or race rain tires.
 
The event will be divided into two portions: qualifying and the challenge. Both qualifying and challenge will be conducted on the same autocross course.
 
Qualifying consists of a regular autocross. Competitors will be assigned car numbers beginning with #1. No more than two competitors can drive a car and one must take an odd number and the other an even number. At drivers meeting a coin will be flipped to determine if odd or even numbered cars run first or work first. Competitors will be given a minimum of 3 qualifying runs (we will try to give more but it depends on the number of entrants we have and other circumstances).
 
After all cars have received their qualifying runs, the top 10 cars of each marque will be announced and will be asked to participate in the challenge round. If a competitor does not wish or cannot join the challenge in the car they competed in the next fastest car of that marque will be asked to participate. Once all ten slots for each marque have been determined, cars will be gridded with the slowest Corvette up first followed by the slowest Porsche, then the next slowest Porsche, then the next slowest Corvette, etc. No driver or car substitutions are allowed. If a driver or his car is not able to compete another competitor shall be asked to join the challenge.
 
Each car in the challenge grid will be given 1 run. Upright cones knocked down or fully out of their box will add two seconds to the time. Pointer cones do not count. If a car runs off course or fails to complete the course it will be marked as a DNF (see below for DNF scoring). 
 
If a car is red flagged or there is a timing problem or the driver stopped on course for a cone that was not correctly in position, a rerun will be awarded. That rerun will be taken no sooner than 5 minutes and no later than 10 minutes after the car returns to grid. Reruns will be awarded even if the car coned prior to the red flag. Cones will not carry over. If a car DNFs before coming to a down cone or receiving a red flag or there is a timing malfunction, the DNF will stand and a rerun will not be awarded.
 
Once all 20 cars have completed the challenge round the times will be posted and the team scores will be tallied. The tally works as follows: For each team, cars are put in order from fastest to slowest. Any DNF goes to the bottom of the list. If there is more than one DNF on a team all but one will be awarded a time equal to the slowest non-DNF time for either team plus 5 seconds.Then the slowest time and the fastest time for each team will be dropped. The remaining 8 times for each team will be added up and the team with the lowest total time will be awarded the Porsche-Corvette Challenge Trophy.
 
Recognizing that cars with race tires have a decided advantage and that many drivers will choose to run on street tires, the organizers will make the following adjustments during the challenge round. Each car that runs on true street tires will receive a 1.500 second reduction in their posted time. A true street tire is defined as one having a treadwear rating of 140 or greater. To receive the 1.5 second reduction the driver of the car must inform the timing staff of their street tire treadwear rating before running. Organizers may choose to examine the sidewall before the run begins. IT IS THE DRIVER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM OFFICIALS BEFORE HIS RUN. If not informed, timing staff will assume race tires and no time reduction will be granted.
 
In the event of any disagreement about the scoring or the conduct of the event One representative of each marque will hold a brief hearing to gather facts and then discuss the matter privately and come to an amicable resolution. This is, afterall, just for fun.

 For classes A-G - Classing assumes cars are completely stock. Deviations from stock will follow the upclassing rules to determine final class. Each modification to your car from stock will receive a certain number of points. If your car accrues 20 or more points you will be bumped up in class. There is no limit - a car with a high level of modifications might move up several classes. 

20 thru 39 points - Up 1 Class

60 thru 79 points - Up 3 Classes

100 thru 119 points - Up 5

40 thru 59 points - Up 2 Classes

80 thru 99 points - Up 4 Classes

120 or more points - Up 6

Our autocrosses are designed to be friendly competition, not an all-out assault. Competitors should be sportsmanlike in self-classing. While it is possible to prepare a car to the limits of these rules that will soundly trounce more casually prepared cars that is non-sportsmanlike behavior and those competitors who insist on stretching the spirit to win will be asked to reevaluate their self-classing. Likewise, competitors who have modified their cars extensively but without regard to autocross competitiveness, should not be surprised to be bumped into a class with faster cars.
