Carolinas/First Settlers Region Joint Reptile Run

Join your Porsche loving friends on a joint adventure with the Carolinas and First Settlers Regions to explore some of Western Virginia’s best driving roads May 8-11, 2025.
On our 2-days of driving adventure, we'll explore several of the named routes through the Appalachians, routes such as: Back of the Dragon, The Tennessee Snake, Trail of Dragons, The Head of the Dragon, Widowmaker, The Kentucky Rattler, Burkes Garden, The Scorpion, and The Saltville Slither.
All or a portion of these routes are included in the planned drives as well as social events to meet like-minded Porschephiles from our Region neighbors.
Accommodations will be at the General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion Virginia. One of National Geographic's top 150 hotels in North America. Winner of 6 Virginia Living Magazine’s " Best of Virginia Awards". There are 2 full days of driving with options for longer or shorter drives on Saturday. Selection of desired drive is required at registration, but there will be an option to change your driving group/route on the day of the event. A catered group lunch is scheduled for Friday afternoon and group dinner is scheduled for Saturday night, other social events are planned for Thursday and Friday.
There is an option to register for 1 day (Saturday only) or both days. Those options are selectable during registration.
Event cost:
Saturday Only - $85 per person
The Full Monty (Friday and Saturday) - $115 per person
**This event is limited to 12 couples/cars per region.
Registration includes:
- One or two days of driving led by a skilled and experienced lead driver.
- A pre-drive technical session on techniques for mastering unfamiliar twisty terrain.
- Catered lunch at Abingdon Vineyards on Friday.
- Saturday night dinner/social event at the General Francis Marion Hotel/Swamp Fox Restaurant for all attendees.
- Lunch on Saturday will be coordinated but paid for individually.
Twenty-four rooms have been reserved at the General Francis Marion Hotel (12 per region).
Once you have been CONFIRMED for the event, call the hotel at 276-783-4800, mention "Porsche Club of America" to get our rate and access our block of rooms. Rooms have been reserved for Thursday May 8 through Saturday May 10. Check out on Sunday, May 11.

Agenda
- Thurs, 8 May: Arrival day for those registered for The Full Monty with a social and event check-in at the General Francis Marion Hotel.
- Friday, 9 May: Morning Safety Meeting and Tech Session followed by an "all hands" drive through the Jefferson National Forest and Mount Rogers National Recreational Area to route 421, the "Tennessee Snake". From there we'll proceed to Abingdon Vineyards for a catered lunch. Return to the General Francis Marion Hotel will be at your leisure. This is also arrival day for Saturday only registrants.
- Saturday, 10 May: Two driving options:
- A longer drive of 180 miles for the die-hard driving enthusiast. World class twisty roads starting with the "Back of the Dragon" and then proceeding to The Breaks Interstate Park on the Kentucky/Virginia state line for lunch. Hailed as the "Grand Canyon of the South", this park is noteworthy as it is the location of the successful reintroduction of elk into their native habitat east of the Mississippi River in 1997. Return to the hotel via VA 80, "The Widowmaker." Various parts of other "Reptilian Routes" are Included in this drive. Four total stops planned for your comfort.
- A shorter drive of 94 miles on Saturday includes a northbound drive on the "Back of the Dragon" and then lunch in Burkes Garden which has unique geology, it is a long extinct volcanic caldera. Optional stop at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum before proceeding southbound on the Back of the Dragon on your return to the hotel. Approximately 94 miles total.
NOTE: You will be required to make your selection as to which drive you want to participate in at the time of registration, but you will have the option to change that if desired on the day of the drive.
- All hands dinner provided by the Swamp Fox Restaurant in the Lincoln Ballroom at the General Francis Marion Hotel. Dinner and dessert options to be selected upon registration. All dinner options include green beans, fingerling potatoes, a dinner roll and wine.
**APPLICATIONS/EVENT ACCEPTANCE
- Since this is a joint event and 12 spots are allocated for each region, acceptance into the event must be confirmed by the registrar to ensure an even distribution of spots. You will be notified of your status by email as soon as possible after you register. You are responsible for updating your profile on MotorsportReg.com to include your current contact information and your PCA region.
- All registrants are listed as “NEW” for this event. When acceptance is confirmed, we will change your status to CONFIRMED and provide formal notification of acceptance by email. If you haven’t received any notification, check the MSR event attendee list for your status.
- Your credit card will be charged only after you have been CONFIRMED for the event.

Event requirements
Electronic signing of the PCA Waiver:
Since this is a moving event, we will have a certificate of insurance and all attendees must sign the PCA Waiver.
As we do at our Drivers Ed events at VIR, we'll be using Speedwaiver instead of signing hard copy waivers at this event.
Please go to the link below to sign the waiver. All attendees must sign, so if you have guests on your registration, please provide them this link so that they can sign as well. The PCA Event Waiver must be signed in advance through the SpeedWaiver system.
