More Seat Time, Less Stress!
The Bertil Roos Graduate Camp is a program designed to give newcomers to the world of road racing an opportunity for more seat time and training without the pressures and stress of a normal competition race weekend. Because this program is for those drivers who have just obtained a race or competition license recently, those who attend this event will be training and competing with other drivers that are at par with their current experience level. This allows for drivers who attend this event to feel more relaxed while conducting sessions and laps, and also more accurately gauge their progress against the other drivers.
A Steep Learning Curve!
The first day of the Graduate Camp contains only 1 singular goal: improve upon driver weaknesses and desired skills as much as possible. Upon registration, drivers will be evaluating their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to racing. The drivers will then be assigned to instructors who the Bertil Roos Racing School feels will be the best match to help the drivers improve their skills based upon their assessment.
The first day of the Graduate Camp is extremely unique in the fact that it is designed much like an open track day, where the instructors and students have free reign to practice and train at their own discretion. Throughout the on-track sessions, instructors may either observe the student's driving from a specific part of the track, or they may jump into the cars to work on wheel to wheel training with the students. When off track, instructors will have the opportunity to discuss any race related topic with the students that they feel need to be addressed to improve the student's driving and racing skills. There is no agenda to this day, just training and racing.
Some Interesting Competition!
The second day of the Graduate Camp will be a competition day. Much like any other competition weekend, there will be practice, qualifying, and races. Practice and qualifying are conducted as normal, with the instructors observing how the students tackle these session and relaying the appropriate feedback. The races are when things become interesting.
There are 3 races within this day overall. All 3 are sprint-type races, consisting of 6-8 laps. Race 1 consists of a completely random grid procedure, where the drivers are placed on grid based on a "lottery drawing". The grid from Race 2 is based on the finishing order of Race 1, but the order will be reversed. The winner of the race will start last, while the driver who finished last will start first, and so on in between. Race 3 will have a familiar grid procedure, with starting positions based on qualifying times from fastest to slowest.
These unusual grid procedures are intended to give the most experience to drivers of all skill levels. We intend for drivers who are used to being up front to experience the back of the back, and for drivers who haven't held a pole position yet to experience what it is like to be at the front of a pack. These procedures also allow for more wheel to wheel action situations which is valuable practice for all drivers.
Rain? Of Course We Race In The Rain!
The Bertil Roos Racing School will continue with the scheduled program rain or shine. Drivers whom experience a day in the rain will learn that driving in wet conditions is an art all on its own, and is more fun than it sounds. Driving in wet conditions is an opportunity to gain a good amount of car control experience and and really learning to feel what the car is doing. The only weather that will cause an event cancelation is stormy or extreme weather conditions. Please refer to our website (racenow.com) or call our office to learn about our weather-related cancelation policy.
Custom Made Formula Cars Built For Safety And Speed!
The Bertil Roos Racing School utilizes in-house built formula cars that were designed by the school founder himself, Bertil Roos. Our cars are competition style Formula 2000 cars that have been redesigned for optimal safety and teaching purposes. Our cars run with a Ford 2.0L, 4 Valve engine that pushes 150bhp. With a weight of only 1200lbs, with the driver, our cars are capable of reaching 130mph in a draft and can stop on a dime! Front and rear wings on our cars allow cornering speeds capable of pulling up to 2Gs! Above performance, our cars have also been redesigned for safety. The entire chassis and roll bar are welded together with rigid steel that makes the car very durable and tank-like. A modern 5 point harness is installed in our cars to keep drivers safely secured as well. Each of our cars have different cockpit sizes, and the seat and pedals are fully adjustable, which allow for virtually any size driver!
