Apex the Rock 2022 Track Day at Rockingham Roval

Rockingham Speedway

About this event

This is a MBCA Virginia Section event.   On May 28 and 29, 2022, Apex the Rock HPDE Event will take place at Rockingham Speedway Roval!  The Rock is an iconic ex-Nascar track that has banked turns and an infield turning an oval with a road course into a "Roval".  This course has 25 degree banking and 10 turns over a 1.5 mile course.  There is no competition for times or trophies but a lot of fun to be had. Virtually any car is fully capable of handling this type of event.

Cost for one day is $149 and the cost for both days is only $275!!  You will get up to 5 sessions per day with time between to cool down your car and socialize with other drivers.  This also includes classroom instruction and in car instruction for Novice and some Intermediate drivers.

You must have a valid driver's license to attend. You will be able to download a technical inspection form that your personal mechanic will perform before you leave home. All you need to bring is this and a Snell SA2015 or later helmet.  Motorcycle helmets are not allowed.

We will have an at track safety inspection at the track on Saturday morning and Sunday morning (for Sunday only drivers.)

This is a Virginia Section of the MBCA for this event but this event is open to all makes and models and you do not have to be a club member to participate.  There will be a full day of track time and classroom instruction with 4-5 sessions in a non-timed HPDE set up. Car sharing is allowed with separate registration for each driver.  This event will fill very quickly, so you will need to place your entry soon. The price for this fun at the race track is $149 for one day or only $275 for both days!  Instructors will be able to track for no charge (upon approval from our Chief Instructor).  All we ask is that you help one novice student and one intermediate student.  Driving History/Experience will be verified for all Instructors.

All skill levels are welcome from beginner to track veteran.

We split drivers up into 4 experience groups: One of the four groups will be dedicated to novice students who will be required to have in car instructors.

Green Group (Novice) This group is for anyone with no or very little on track experience.  An instructor will be provided at no charge for all members of this group.

Yellow Group (Intermediate) This group is for anyone with some on track experience.  An instructor will be provided at no charge to members of this group.  Once considered safe to run alone, drivers in this group can be "Solo'd" so they can drive on track without an instructor.

Blue Group (Advanced)  This group is for anyone with plenty of on track experience.

White Group (Instructor) This group is reserved for instructors only.

Event requirements

You must have a valid driver's license to attend. You will be able to download a technical inspection form that your personal mechanic will perform before you leave home. All you need to bring is this and a Snell SA2015 or later helmet.  Motorcycle helmets are not allowed

We will have an at track safety inspection at the track on Saturday morning and Sunday morning (for Sunday only drivers.)

Policy on Convertibles:  We do not allow cars without rollover protection to drive in our High Performance Driving Events.  This would include Porsche Cabriolet (air-cooled), Mustang, Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, Miata (1990-2006), Solstice, Z3, and most British and Italian sports cars from the 1940's through the 1980's.  T-Top or targa versions of these cars are allowed, as are all Corvette coupes.  Fiberglass hardtops do not provide structural protection so they do not qualify the car.  In order to make these cars eligible, they must have a four point (or more) structural roll hoops installed.  They can be bolt in or welded, but must provide a full hoop with down bars from the corners of the hoop triangulating toward the rear of the car.  We highly recommend utilizing a five or six point harness and arm restraints for both driver and passenger.  Once installed a "broomstick test" will be applied with the driver wearing their helmet to ensure the head does not stick up above the area of protection.  The following convertibles with factory rollover protection are allowed:  Porsche 911 Cabriolet (water-cooled), Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4, Audi TT, Nissan 350Z/370Z, BMW 3 series 1999 and newer, Honda S2000, Mazda Miata 2007 and newer, Mercedes SL, SLK and CLK, and other cars with stated production "factory rollover" protection.
