About this event
Alpine Tour 2022
September 7th - 9th
Experience what “no book of scenic drives would be complete without” according to Arizona Highways. This portion of the Coronado Trail (previously known as the Devils Highway from its original Route 666 designation), runs between Alpine and Clifton Arizona. We’ll be driving Hwy 191 from the South, which starts at an elevation 3,500 feet and crests at just over 9,000 feet, some 400 curves later! To get there, we will first drive south on New Mexico Highway 180, an equally enjoyable road.
On Wednesday, September 7th we will drive to Alpine, with lunch in Pinetop. The drive will depart the Maverick Gas Station on Highway 69 in Dewey at 9 am. Please arrive by 8:30am so we can depart on time. There will be a stop at the Burger King in Camp Verde at 9:30 am for Verde Valley and other members to join the drive.
We have rooms blocked at the Tal Wi Wi Lodge (15 rooms at various prices), which will be held until July 15th, or until they’re all booked. Please call to make your room reservation now, as this trip will fill up quickly.
For reservations, call the Tal Wi Wi Lodge at 928-339-4319. Let them know that you are with the Arizona Mountain PCA group. Payment for one night is collected up front with the balance due a few days before arrival.
For Wednesday evening social hour - Please bring your own beverages and appetizer to share. We'll gather outside on their lawn.
On Thursday, September 8th we will do the 212-mile loop drive, with lunch in Morenci (half-way point) and return to Alpine for dinner.
We will return home on Friday, Sept 9th. There will be a stop for breakfast in Greer.
Registration is limited to 15 cars.
