3rd Annual Schnitzel July 2022 Club Drive – Colorado Springs – May 20, 2023
For our May club tour we will meet up in Parker and drive to Penrose Heritage Museum in Colorado Springs and finish the day at Edelweiss German Restaurant. Our day will begin at Takoda Tavern - 12365 Pine Bluffs Way, Parker CO 80134. Grab something to eat if needed at Takoda Tavern. Participants in the tour should arrive by 9AM. There will be a mandatory driver’s meeting at 9:00AM and the plan is to leave by 9:15AM.
We will be heading east this time, to Kiowa then south to Hwy 24 into Colorado Springs. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the museum for 1 hour. Admission to the Museum is free. There is free and convenient parking available in the Broadmoor Parking Garage located next to the museum. The plan will be to head to lunch as a group at noon to Edelweiss German Restaurant, 34 E. Ramona Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
Reservations will be made for the group to accommodate the group to be able to sit together. All participants will be required to pay for their own food and beverages.
About Penrose Heritage Museum:Penrose Heritage Museum showcases the history and heritage of the Pikes Peak region through the personal artifact collection of Colorado Springs’ philanthropists Spencer and Julie Penrose.The Penrose legacy includes the construction of the Pikes Peak Auto Highway (1916), Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (1916), The Broadmoor (1918), Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (1926), Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College (1936), Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun (1937) and Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo (1937) – just to name a few of Colorado Springs’ most iconic attractions! Penrose Heritage Museum exhibits 30 carriages, personal artifacts of Spencer and Julie Penrose and 15 race cars that competed in the infamous Race to the Clouds, one of the oldest motorsport events in the U.S., second only to the Indianapolis 500.
About Edelweiss German Restaurant: Originally from the Heidelberg region of Germany Helga Schnakenberg has been a part of the Edelweiss family since 1969. Using only the best fresh ingredients, the menu she has created is an invitation to visit Germany and taste all it has to offer. Helga, her husband Gary, and their son Dieter will welcome you and make you feel at home.
Total tour time is estimated at 3.75 hours and ~65 miles (~1.75 hours of drive time).
Schedule
- Meet at Takoda Tavern 8am on Sat. May 20th
- Mingle with club members for ½ hour, read the rules and head out by 9:15am
- Drive goes to Penrose Heritage Museum via Hwy 86 & Elbert Rd and Hwy 24 - arriving around 11:00am
- Participants will have 1 hour to tour the museum, then we will head as a group to Edelweiss German Restaurant for lunch
- Most direct way back to Denver is I-25.
Please have your car gassed up, drinks, snacks, and restroom break completed so we can leave at 9:15. There will be restrooms at our starting location. A map will be provided of the route to every car.
