2nd Annual Schnitzel July 2022 Club Drive – Colorado Springs – July 9, 2022
For our 2022 July club tour we will meet up in Denver and drive to Penrose Heritage Museum in Colorado Springs and finish the day at Edelweiss German Restaurant. Our day will begin at Audi of Denver - 6060 S Broadway, Littleton CO 80121. Audi of Denver will be providing a light breakfast for everyone attending. Participants in the tour should arrive by 9AM. There will be a mandatory driver’s meeting at 9:30AM and the plan is to leave by 10:00AM.
We'll cruise South on HWY 85 passing through Sedalia and then continuing onto HWY 105 into Monument. We will stop in Monument at the Safeway, 624 CO-105, Monument, CO 80132, for a restroom break. From Monument we will take I-25 to the Penrose Heritage Museum.Upon arrival at the Penrose Heritage Museum, we will gather and socialize as a group. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the museum for 1 hour. Admission to the Museum is free. There is free and convenient parking available in the Broadmoor Parking Garage located next to the museum. The plan will be to head to lunch as a group at 1:30 to Edelweiss German Restaurant, 34 E. Ramona Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
Reservations will be made for the group to accommodate the group to be able to sit together. All participants will be required to pay for their own food and beverages.
About Penrose Heritage Museum:Penrose Heritage Museum showcases the history and heritage of the Pikes Peak region through the personal artifact collection of Colorado Springs’ philanthropists Spencer and Julie Penrose.The Penrose legacy includes the construction of the Pikes Peak Auto Highway (1916), Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (1916), The Broadmoor (1918), Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (1926), Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College (1936), Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun (1937) and Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo (1937) – just to name a few of Colorado Springs’ most iconic attractions! Penrose Heritage Museum exhibits 30 carriages, personal artifacts of Spencer and Julie Penrose and 15 race cars that competed in the infamous Race to the Clouds, one of the oldest motorsport events in the U.S., second only to the Indianapolis 500.
About Edelweiss German Restaurant: Originally from the Heidelberg region of Germany Helga Schnakenberg has been a part of the Edelweiss family since 1969. Using only the best fresh ingredients, the menu she has created is an invitation to visit Germany and taste all it has to offer. Helga, her husband Gary, and their son Dieter will welcome you and make you feel at home.
Total tour time is estimated at 3.75 hours and ~65 miles (~1.75 hours of drive time).
- Meet at Audi of Denver at 9am on Sat. July 9th
- Mingle with club members for ½ hour, Audi of Denver will talk to group for a few minutes, read the rules and head out by 10am
- Drive goes to Penrose Heritage Museum via Hwy 85 &105 and I-25
- Participants will have 1 hour to tour the museum, then we will head as a group to Edelweiss German Restaurant for lunch
- Most direct way back to Denver is I-25.
Please have your car gassed up, drinks, snacks, and restroom break completed so we can leave at 10AM. There will be restrooms at our starting location, Audi of Denver. A map will be provided of the route to every car.
