Great news—we now have a track date that's two weeks later than it used to be!
This now puts us well into the spring season in central Indiana, as well as avoiding the Easter weekend.

You're invited to join us for the Hoosier Chapter's 20th Anniversary Rites o’ Spring Driver School at Putnam Park Road Course. The school will be held the weekend of 30th April–1st May 2011 (with optional Instructor/Advanced Student familiarization on Friday 29th). Putnam Park is near Cloverdale, exit 41 from I-70 west of Indianapolis.

For Advanced level students
You'll get plenty of track time with enhanced passing rules, plus classroom activities tailored to advanced driving techniques and topics. Advanced students may also apply to drive on Friday 30th April (extra cost).

Are you new to Driver Schools?
The Driver School's mission is to teach advanced driving skills and habits in the controlled environment of a closed course — and for everyone to have fun while doing it. You'll have an assigned instructor with you in your car for the whole weekend while you put into practice the advanced techniques you learn during the classroom sessions. We divide students into groups based on track driving experience, so if you're new to this you'll be sharing the experience with other novices.

Although we hold the school on a closed track, this is not a race or any form of competitive or timed event. Safety is our primary concern — for the protection of all our participants, anything even resembling racing or unsafe behavior will be grounds for immediate exclusion.

Who can attend?
Students need to be 18 years or older, have a currently valid driver's license and be members of the BMW CCA (or immediate family of a member). If you have other friends that would like to participate, they'll need to sign up as members.

What about the car?
You'll be driving your own car. You don't have to drive a BMW—we have students in Hondas, Porsches, Infinitis, Corvettes and other kinds of cars. But we are the BMW Club, so of course we think that BMWs are best! And by the way, that includes Minis—that's what your Chief Instructor has as his daily driver.

We do not accept convertibles, including hard-top or retracting metal roof models. SUVs, trucks or vans aren't generally suited for this type of activity.

How much does this cost, and what's included?
The student fee is $375. This covers two days of in-car and supporting classroom instruction by our skilled and experienced personnel. Since dining opportunities in the area are limited, we hold a Saturday night banquet at an additional cost of $20 per person if you choose to attend (guests welcome). Other than the banquet you'll be responsible for your own meals, as well as for your motel room.

Sounds great—how do I sign up?
Right here at Motorsportreg.com, which allows you both to fill out your registration information and to make convenient and secure payment by credit card, all in a few simple steps. You may optionally elect to pay directly by check.

We accept entries on a first come, first served basis.

How do I know I’ve been accepted to the school?
We’ll send you an email when you’ve been accepted. Note that acceptance in the Driver School can not be confirmed until your payment has been received and your student application reviewed.

Help! I can't make the online system do what I want — what now?
If you’re having technical difficulties, or you need to consult us directly, no problem, we'll get you signed up. Call Neil Maller at (260) 437-9174, daytime or until 8pm, or shoot me an email at neil@nmaller.net. We're accepting registrations now.

See you at the track!

Event requirements

Does my car need any special preparation?
You'll be driving your own car. It needs to have good brakes and be in sound mechanical condition overall, ready for a weekend of intensive driving. When you register you'll receive more detailed information about having it inspected prior to the event.

You may not drive a rental car (Hertz, Avis, etc.) in the school. (Exception: cars prepared and explicitly rented out for track use.)

All cars must have a fully functional front passenger seat with restraints that's usable by a personal of average size and build. If in doubt, contact me.

For safety reasons we do not accept convertibles, including hard-top or retracting metal roof models.

Do I need any special equipment?
You will need a helmet that meets Snell Memorial Foundation SA2000 or M2000 standards. (We also accept SFI and FIA rated helmets that meet BMW CCA Club Racing rules.) More information about his is in the school documentation you'll receive after registration. We do have a very limited number of loaner helmets available for first time students who may not wish to commit to buying their own.
