2023 Intro to Autocross Open Event #3

Atlanta Motor Speedway

About this event

THIS IS A SATURDAY OPEN EVENT FOR NOVICES AND NON-SCCA MEMBERS.

INSTRUCTORS WILL GET FREE AFTERNOON RUNS!

REGISTRATION CLOSES 5PM ON FRIDAY!!!

This Intro to Autocross event is intended to give you the opportunity to learn how we run an autocross in the Atlanta Region of the SCCA.  The focus is not on speed, but to show you things like:

  • What is tech and how does Tech operate?
  • What is grid, and how does Grid operate?
  • How does Start and getting on course operate?
  • How do you read a course and avoid getting lost?
  • What do you do if you DO get lost?
  • What do you do if you lose control, hit a bunch of cones, or get sideways?
  • What is “a “red flag” and how do you “work a corner?”
  • How does communication work between Grid, Start, Control, Timing, and the Corner Captains?
  • What is considered “good manners” at our events, and what will get you dirty looks?

Our goal is to show you how much fun you can have at an Autocross in a relaxed, low-pressure environment.  While we will have timing lights up, this is not a competition event, so we will not be recording times for scoring purposes.

Instructors are there to show you the ropes, answer your questions, and explain to you the benefits of membership.  If you become a member, they will also be familiar faces when you attend your first competition event.

The morning will be about learning how to drive and work an autocross. In the afternoon, you will be joined by other experienced drivers to gain experience and meet more people.

Loaner helmets will be available at this event on a first come, first served basis. However, we do not have enough loaner helmets for everyone, so you are strongly encouraged to bring your own, and it must meet our tech requirements (here is a summary of what is required).

If you want to bring a non-participant with you, you MUST have them register online.  No one who is unregistered will be allowed through the checkin gate.
