1st Annual Back of the Dragon Drive (BOTD)

August 5th – 7th 2022
Join us for the Chapter’s 1st Annual BOTD Drive.  BOTD is one of the most famous driving event routes on the East Coast.

• It is a 32 mile stretch of VA Rt 16 & runs between Marion, VA & Tazewell, VA. 
• It offers 438 curves in those 32 miles & traverses 3 mountains.  It offers switchbacks, slaloms, hairpins & spectacular scenic views.

Logistics:

• Friday Aug 5th - Arrival Day - Attendees are invited to join us for an evening at Old VA Chophouse in Tazewell, VA @ 7pm
• Saturday Aug 6th - Morning - Attendees to meet at the Back of the Dragon Center located at 592 Mainstreet, Tazewell VA @ 9:30am
  • Depart to BOTD to Marion, VA - we will be stopping at some of the overlooks along the way.
  • Lunch will be at The Wooden Pickle in Marion, VA
• Saturday Aug 6th - Afternoon - spend the afternoon on additional road routes eventually ending back in Tazewell for dinner at The Front Porch on Main.
  • For those who would like to attend, we will head over to Back of the Dragon Center for their Brewery Experience to close out the evening.
• Sunday Aug 7th - Morning - Attendees to meet at the Back of the Dragon Center @ 9:30am for a run back down to Marion, VA with a return trip the opposite direction on BOTD (yes, it is a different experience) back to Tazewell where we will enjoy a food truck lunch at the Back of the Dragon Center.
• Sunday Aug 7th - Afternoon - event concludes.

Accommodations:  Each attendee is responsible for their own accommodations.  There are several Airbnb locations & rooms can be booked at The Litz Mansion in Tazewell.

Remember to bring your cameras or have you phones ready as we will have several photo opportunities on both days.

** EVENT IS LIMITED TO 15 VEHICLES TO MAXIMIZE THE SMILES PER MILE & TO ENSURE THAT THE THE COORDINATORS CAN EASILY MONITOR THE DRIVES!!

The event has a waitlist function so that if an attendee cancels we can offer that slot to someone on the waitlist.  Waitlist offers will be in the order that people registered.
