HPDE (High Performance Driving Education) is provided and required for any and all newcomers to the Gimli Motorsports Park. All Friday HPDE entries will start their day as part of the yellow wristband (novice) group. Following the brief school/orientation classroom session drivers will be allowed to participate in the open lapping for the rest of the day within their designated group. Progression from the yellow group to the green group will be determined by the Track Director or Chief Instructor based on the entry's performance and experience on track. (typically a driver progresses up from the novice group after 3 or 4 track sessions - however this is based on individual driver performance/experience, is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of the Chief Instructor)

Open Lapping Classing System

Yellow: NOVICE
This class if for novice track drivers who have not yet "graduated" to the GREEN group and typically are attending the HPDE and their first Open Lapping day. Note: this class has limited speed limits and strict passing rules. 

Green: EXPERIENCED
Choose this class if you have attended the HPDE (or other similiar school). You must be signed off by a lead instructor to enter this group.  If you are unsure if you qualify for Green, speak to the registrar.  This class also includes all competition license holders with street cars. This class allows passing on the front straight and back straight without speed limit

Drivers:

• All drivers are required to wear long pants and closed toed shoes. Long sleeved shirts are recommended.
• All drivers are required to wear appropriate helmets (minimum SNELL SA2015 or M2015 series or equivelent ). No "DOT-only" helmets allowed.
  • Vehicles with factory or aftermarket roll protection must wear SNELL SA helmets.
  • Newer SA helmets are available for rent in all sizes. First come, first served.
• All drivers should bring a plastic bin to keep their belongings in. Make sure it is marked with your name and car number.
• All drivers should bring appropriate tools and equipment to rotate tires, and re-torque lug nuts at a minimum.

   Vehicle:

• Any four-wheeled vehicle is permitted however it must be dimensionally wider than it is tall.
  • Convertibles are permitted providing they have an OEM Hard-Top or OEM/Aftermarket installed roll protection.
• Vehicles do not have to be road legal however must appear and function as if they could be driven on the street. This includes but not limited to:
  • Coachwork complete and intact
  • Functioning side and rear view mirrors
  • Working head and tail lamps
  • Functioning wipers
• All regular maintenance must be up to date with no leaks.
• All entrants must have completed annual tech form for the vehicle that is registered.
• All vehicles shall be numbered.

Drifting:

Cost: $125.00 for the Saturday Skid Pad & Evening Road Course Drift  Cost: $75.00 for the Sunday Skid Pad Drift 

• Note: $25.00 discount available if registered for both days

All you need is a well maintained street car that's wider than it is tall and an approved helmet! Helmets are available for rent ($25/day)
